    Flaked wheat and oats

Can either or both be steeped or do either or both need mashed? I have a pound of both along with some crystal that I wanted to add to 6 pounds of LME. It doesn't matter whether I do a steep or a partial mash just want to know what I can do with them? Thanks, Pitt

    Surplus LME

I just got my first shipment from morebeer. I ordered an all grain kit and a weldlless faucet for my keg. Anyway in my package was a 7 pound tub of ultra-light liquid malt extract. I contacted them and was told they shipped the mini-mash version along with my all-grain kit. They told me to...

    5 gallon gott-type cooler

For those who use one or have used used one how many pounds of grain can you mash without having overflow or overflowing when putting on the lid? Thanks, Pitt

    Thanks for nothing!

So, I'm brewing my fourth batch in the garage. It's gonna be a nice english brown. Steeped the grains for 30 minutes- no problem. Add the extract and bringing it up to boil no problem. Getting ready for the hot break. Got my gloves on to pick up the kettle from the heat. Done this before...

    Weird

I just opened a Northern Brewer cream ale extract I bottled one week ago. I have to admit it is my favorite from my first 3 brews--and it's only a week old! I knew what I was brewing when I started-I wanted a lawnmower beer and it's dead on. 15 IBUs. But what got me was when I was boiling...

    Just got 2 kegs

I just got 2 15.5gal kegs froma buddy. I want to convert them to a boil/sparge water kettle and a liqour collection/brew pot for use in a tiered system. What do I need to convert them. Do I need a ball valve and thermometer in each? I haven't seen a tiered system in use so I'm going by the...

    Third Brew

I brewed up a NB cream ale kit on 3/24 and racked it over to a secondary on the 31st. It had fermented vigously and by the end of the week I was getting 1 bubble every 2 minutes or so. Now in the seconday I have about an inch of light foamy krausen. It seems to have started to referment or...

    First wheat

I made my first wheat last night with a little crystal steeped into it. The smell of that stuff boiling was wonderful. Much better than the red ale and that smelled good. MMMMMMMM!!!!:cross: This homebrewing s*** is fun!

    Mountain Spring Water

I tried a search on this but didn't really find what I was looking for. What about using true mountain spring water. The spring thaw is near and there is a place a few miles form my home where everyone fills up with mountain spring water. Would it be ok to brew with? Would I need to filter...

    How do I know...

Alright I made my first brew on Saturday morning; EDME Devishly Red Ale and at 24 hours it was bubbling like crazy. It is now 48 hours out and I'm getting 1 bubble every 3 to 4 seconds. Temperature is 68 F. Does this sound ok? I only sprinkled the yeast on top and mixed it in. I didn't make...

    the secondary

My question is: Does a 6.5 gal glass carboy leave too much headspace as the secondary fermentor for a 5 gallon batch when racking to it after a week or so? Is this too much oxygen to potentially leave the beer exposed to? Reason is- it is all I have to use as a secondary right now or should I...

    Another Newb

Hello, I'm new to the home brew arena so take it easy on me. I have been wanting to get started for a long time. I have been reading what I can, Palmer's books for example. I am guessing to stay away from the Mr. Beer type kits. I will be assembling my own kit for my first brew and want to...
