Things I learned going from Home to Nanobrewer...

Well I would have to walk almost 90 yards to get down to TAPS, but if you get a beer in there let us know, I'll make that long treacherous journey :mug:

    #1 Beer City in America...

Yeah I know what you mean. I hate living in the north SF bay area; sometimes I have to drink beer from Lagunitas, Russian River, Marin Brewing, Bear Republic, Anchor, Rogue, Pyramid, Speakeasy, North Coast, Anderson Valley, Boonville. Not to mention all this Napa and Sonoma wine. Truly this...

"Apple Vinegar" & peroxide to de-lead Brass?

You just need to acidify the solution. Both vinegars are going to do the same exact thing, one is just distilled and contains only acetic acid and water. :mug:

Lagunitas Tap Room - Buzz around town

P.S You been to the new `TAPS' that opened up this month in downtown Petaluma? Its over across from the Bank of America on Kentucky. Sports bar's aren't really my thing....but 30+ beers on tap are, so I'll give it a thumbs up.

Lagunitas Tap Room - Buzz around town

That is odd, I mean there aren't any stairs or anything. But as far as the restrooms go there is nothing remotely dirty about them, that place is pretty clean. You need to spend some time down the road at the Black Cat (or the Russian River for that matter) if you think Lagunitas needs a...

    CO2 Prices

Don't we have a problem of too much CO2 in the atmosphere these days? Shouldn't the stuff be dirt cheap by now? :drunk: Maybe one day we will all have our own little CO2 sequestering setup's outside, just doing our part in the fight against global warming... :mug:

    Improved boiling on the stovetop!

So I picked up some of that DuraBlanket, used it last night on a brew and it worked really well on my gas range with my 15gal kettle... One thing I have an issue with is the durability of the `dura'blanket... because its 1) not that durable and 2) I tried not to touch it once it was on the...

Can't Find A Cooler [Foiled By Winter Yet Again!]

The `:D ' was there because I didn't want to hijack the thread or go way off topic.... Lets face it, we have no idea if these compounds pose a risk or not, there is simply no long-term data. I made the aluminum comment because there are a good deal of people who choose to cook and or brew...

Can't Find A Cooler [Foiled By Winter Yet Again!]

I just grabbed a cooler at HD like 3 days ago, it was in the garden section outside.. though I'm out here in California where we don't really have `seasons'. :mug: When I picked the cooler up I also noticed that the big orange 10gal said nothing about NOT using hot liquids in it, where every...

    CO2 Prices

Well, calling around got me down to $19.22 which is quite a bit more reasonable then the $31 I have been paying to Airgas... Thanks guys, I never really put much thought into exactly how much I was paying... :mug:

    CO2 Prices

looks like I am getting ripped off... I have been going to this place (I think it's a chain, AirGas) and they charge me $30 bux to swap 5# tanks... Looks like it's time to call around...

    Water profile -how to fix...

The city water report is an average of different sampling points... The water coming out of your tap is not going to be the same as the water a block away. We are talking about water, aka the 'universal solvent', it's good at what it does... which is solvating ions. Looks like the take home...

    Water profile -how to fix...

Sorry, Yes. That table is getting at the milliequivalents. For example the molecular weight of Ca is roughly 40. (ie. one mole of Ca weighs 40g) That table is dividing by half that amount due to the 2+ charge on a Ca ion... You need the ionic concentrations in milliequivalents to use his...

Congrats! I grew up in Modesto and escaped in '02.... I'm over in Petaluma, CA now. Welcome to the forum, I'm new here too :tank:

    Chemists??? need water help here!

while that is not EXACT, it is a close enough approximation when talking about a solution that is this dilute. We are talking about salt concentrations that are on the order of mg/kg (which is ppm... 0.001g/1000g) Thus we can use the density of 'pure' water in the calculations. EDIT: Yeah...

    Chemists??? need water help here!

So in the concentrations we are talking about here.. 1ppm IS 1 mg/L 1mg/L = 1g/ million cubic cm's 1g/million cubic cm's * 1 cubic cm / 1 gram (using density of water) * 1part/million parts = 1ppm :D EDIT: at least that's how I remember it from gen chem
