    Duotight Upgrade - Thoughts?

I gave myself a little upgrade when I replaced my lousy drip tray to a nice single piece unit and my standard PVC beer lines with EVA barrier tubing using the Kegland duotight fittings. Super easy, clean looking, great quality and good value for the money compared to the PVC and the advantages...

Copper CF Chiller and Stainless fittings

Howdy, Anyone know any reason why I couldn't/shouldn't use stainless steel compression fittings on the ends of my copper coil CF chiller? I want to use these on this (but the 1/2" version) so I can add a thermometer and barbed fittings, making brew day that much easier. Thanks for the input!

    Flavor Settling Out at Bottom

Howdy all, Using the Bubly drops by SodaStream to flavor a 5 gallon corny keg because we go through about 2 cases a week and it's much better for the landfill to dispense from a keg than to use up all those aluminum cans. My process is to add the flavoring to the empty keg (63ml per 5...

    Using Honey

Morning all! Doing a beer this weekend that I hope will taste like Hopslam. The recipe I am using calls for 2lbs of honey added during the last 5 minutes of the boil. I am using US05 which should attenuate at around 81% or so. Using Beersmith 3, the software is calling for nearly 87%...

    Boil Times/Intensity Question and Observation

Hi all, Been brewing beer for a while and have started doing something in the last couple years after hearing a Jamil podcast. It was all about thermal load and shelf stability. I used to just boil the crap out of the beer, full flame, sounded like a jet engine running while I did it. I have a...

Dry Hopping With Pellets - How do YOU do it?

Howdy all. Been brewing for over 10 years now and just NOW starting to like IPA's. Been a German beer fan for years and never cared too much for the IPA but a recent visit to a craft beer fest coupled with some great examples like HopSlam and I have caught the hop head bug. Did an IPA last year...

Polygyle Mashing - Anyone Done It?

Was listening to a Jamil and Tasty podcast about big beers and Jamil talked about a technique he dubbed 'polygyle' mashing, a take on the centuries old partigyle mashing. I am going to brew a big beer but am out of mash tun space in my 10gal cooler and was going to simply split my grain bill in...

    Old Challenger/John Wood/85 Style Keg O Rings

Hi all, Got one of these cheap, not realizing it wasn't the same as my Challenger IV's as far as the compatibility of the parts. Lesson learned. But since I have it, I want to use it. Any idea where I can pick up the O rings for this thing? The standard corny keg lid seal is the same but there...

Help! Fermentation Temp WAYYYY Too High

Doing a maibock using WLP833. Pitched last night at 10pm at 74F, woke up at 8am and had a nice fermentation going so I turned on the fermentation chamber, set the temp to 55 and walked away 5 hours ago. Just looked in on it and with the cool weather, I had the heater plugged into the...

New 3pc Stainless Ball Valves Leaking

Howdy all. Just picked up a set of these to upgrade the system from 2pc brass. The ball valves I replaced, 1/2 brass ones from Home Depot, seem to have a 'taper' to them. When you twist them on the nipple, they snug up after just 4-5 turns and are tough to turn any more than that. These new...

    Kegerator v4.0

Well, kegerator v3.0 bit the proverbial dust the other week, on a week we were hosting college football no less! We survived, did it the old school way - coolers and picnic taps! But I digress... Kegerator 1.0 was a fridge my brother in law found in an alley. It was ugly, old, loud but it was...

Captured Wild Yeast? Newbie Wild Yeast Questions

Hi all, New to wild yeasts here so please forgive. I made a session blonde yesterday afternoon and pulled a OG sample off the boiled wort into the hydrometer test jar. I got busy and left it there overnight. When I went into the garage just now, it was violently bubbling, I assume fermenting...

    Intertap Faucet with Stout Adapter

Just installed one in the kegerator after taking the (financial) plunge and getting the nitro equipment. Been looking for reviews and videos but nothing I found showed what the results were like from the pour. Nothing short of sheer awesomeness...

Hopped (ehem, ehem) back into brewing recently

Been brewing for around 10 years now. Started with one extract batch of Paulaner hefeweizen clone and was hooked after watching an episode of Good Eats where he brewed beer. Didn't really stop brewing just been on a hiatus. Busy really. Brewed up an oaked whiskey imperial stout after visiting...

Cleaning Used Copper Lines - Counterflow Chiller - What Would You Do?

Hi all, Took my IC and turned it into a CFC this past weekend. Tested it out for leaks and functionality and it worked very well. My concern is that the copper line is well used. It's been used as my IC for about 10 years or so now and I usually just blew out the water inside the IC with...

    Yeast Nutrient Clumps?

Hi all, Been brewing for a while now, guess around 10 years, and have been making starters for a while too, but not always. Started brewing higher gravity beers and decided to up my game and pressure can starter wort to make it easier on myself, but I am getting ahead of myself. I've used...

Crushed Grain - How long can you store it?

Just curious. I order two or three batches at a time and usually takes me a couple weeks to a month and a half or so to get it all brewed up. I do that to save on shipping. The bags arrive sealed and they go into an interior wall closet in the dark until they are ready to be used. I haven't...

Lagering in keg? Carbonating at good idea?

So, I am doing my first lager. Yay. Here's the problem. I am all out of carboys. Everything is full and I need a carboy. My lager has been sitting in the secondary for about three weeks now but still needs another 6 weeks or so. I am thinking about racking it into an empty sanitized keg and...

    Lots of foam - Advice?

Hey all, I have some soda kegged in anticipation of 20 gallons of homebrew in the works. I have 5 feet of hose, 3/16" and two of the twisty things shoved into the dip tubes to reduce the pressure. I have the PSI set at 30lbs. It's a kegerator, so there are no exposed runs of warm hose.The...

    Kegerator Pressure Balancing

Hey all, Just got my kegerator set up and running. I plan on having a pretty big party at the house on New Years and home brew will be the main beverage of choice. I have everything timed out so that 20 gallons should be ready and properly conditioned by Christmas (Merry Christmas to me...)...
