    Plastic conical Fermenter air leak

I called the manufacturer of the aquarium silicone at lowes. They told me it was not to be in contact with anything ingested by humans. That's where I gave up and decided cpvc cement would likely be my only option.

Where can one find this magic silicone?

15 gal Inductor Tank Respirating, Mold

I can't figure out a way to seal up the band around the lid. I have white life forming on my beers if I ferment in primary longer than ten days. So far it actually hasn't imparted any discernable off flavors. All I can think to use is cpvc cement, as it is the only adhesive I know of that's...

    Plastic conical Fermenter air leak

Silicone is toxic, that doesn't bothet you? I'm having issues with mold growing in my 15 gal polyethylene conicals due to respiration at the lid but all I can think to use is cpvc cement. At high kreusen the beer touches whatever adhesive you have put there...

white film on top of beer?

Also worthy of note is that these conicals don't create a perfect seal. They breath around the threads at the top where the lid screws down.

white film on top of beer?

So I have made the switch to 15 gal plastic conicals. I have brewed probably 12 batches and probably three of them have a thin layer of white on top that almost looks like soap scum. It has solidish components in it that to not dissipate but stay in the beer. Two of three times I had white mold...

How Much Harvested Yeast To Use

I know but it says i only need about a cup, which doesn't seem right. and thats with the meter set at about the halfway point on the 'thickness' scale. i was adding a cushion. the yeast is actually really damn thick, which would change the suggested pitching volume to .8 cups. I dunno, really...

How Much Harvested Yeast To Use

So.... I recently upgraded to a 15 gallon system using plastic conical fermenters and pvc yeast catchers. I made a batch of RyePA using 5 packs of Nottingham and harvest about 3 qts of really nice, creamy yeast. I want to brew the same beer with it but am lost on how to go about it. Just dump in...

    Stirring Whilst Sparging

it was more a matter of my 'royal assistants' stirring and i lacked a positive and progressive way of asking them to knock it off...

    Stirring Whilst Sparging

just a false bottom with a dip tube. and i doubt the mash paddle is passing all the way down through the 30+ lbs of grain to the false bottom.

    Stirring Whilst Sparging

I have actually been stirring gently during sparge/runoff and havent experienced issues with grain in the boil kettle. just trying to figure out if that has something to do with my efficiency issues since beginnign work on my 15 gal system. i will look at grain crush but i dunno why my mill gap...

Sweet, where'd you find the copper?

Keezer Build (alternative to fan cooling walls of freezer)

Sorry... please xplain what you mean by that.

Keezer Build (alternative to fan cooling walls of freezer)

yeah I had thought of that, too, if for nothing else so the unit was closer to being flush with the wall and not sticking out so much. I saw someone on here, though, that theorized that would not be significant for airflow. That may not have been based on any practical experience, however, it...

Keezer Build (alternative to fan cooling walls of freezer)

Been reading a lot of keezer build threads (for obvious reasons) and it seems like a lot of extra planning to install a fan that blows all across the outer walls of the freezer to ward against the overheating of the compressor. Would it not be acceptible just to drill some small 3/8" holes into...

    Temp Probe in Thermowell Off

I am going to pick up some grease (I guess at Radio Shack?). I'm considering abrading the probe of the thermowell and dipping it in molten copper, also.

    Temp Probe in Thermowell Off

Arrgghh! Alas, i am having the same problem. I'm using a thermowell in the ball valve ov my MT, recirculating the mash through a coil in the HLT back to the lid of the MT. The temp control reads 18 degrees lower than true temp using a 2.5" thermowell and about 6 degrees below true temp using a...
