    lagering fridge

5 gallon batches. So it would need room for at least a 5 gallon carboy with a blow off/air lock. So you are saying keep looking, huh?

    lagering fridge

Hi - I found this on craigs list: Chefmate Mini Refridgerator I was thinking I might make him an offer - does anybody see why it wouldn't work as a lagering fridge in the winter and an ale fermentation fridge for the summer? Would there be a better type to look for? Space is limited...

    Dogs & Grain

I brewed a batch yesterday then dumped the spent grains into a garbage bag. I turned my attention to the boil for a few minutes, then looked around to find my 82 lb greyhound head deep in it! I have no idea how much he scarfed down, but apparently he liked it a lot. I know hops are bad for...

    Set and forget method question

thanks. I chill it. Should I leave it on the gas, considering I wont be here to monitor it? Or is it better to put it on 11psi then remove the gas?

    Set and forget method question

I just kegged my California Common. I started to force card, putting 30psi on it, then the phone rang. Looks like I have some commitments that are going to take me away for 2 weeks. At the moment, it's at room temp with 30 psi - should I bleed the valve, set it to 12.5 and leave it at room temp...

    Craft Brewing on NPR

Heard this on marketplace/npr driving home from work tonight. Not the most informative piece I've ever listened to, but worth a quick listen. Marketplace: Raise a toast to the craft beer

    Brewers Best HopNog 2008...

yup, drinking mine now. Man I love that grapefruit, hoppy taste! Mine came out great! I think my techniques have improved since I brewed it. I might have to pick up another one for more "scientific research".....

    Full Boil Inside Possible?

Unfortunately, I've got a crummy electric stove that takes forever to get 3 gallons to a good boil. Any other ideas?

    Full Boil Inside Possible?

I live in a downtown condo. Outside brewing is simply not possible. What are my options for going to a full boil indoors? Is it even possible? Thanks!

    Budweiser American Ale Commercial

went to an event where they had it for free. Could have stayed there all night drinking for free. I was curious, tried it, left and went to a pup to get a real beer. What a disappointment.

    Plastic Tubing

My local hardware store has plastic tubing that looks identical to the stuff I get from my LHBS. HBS is 45 mins drive (each way) - hardware store is 5. Any reason I shouldn't use tubing for an auto siphon from the hardware store (properly cleaned and sanitized, of course)? I'm sure it is not...

    Is It Ready?

I'm brewing an Amer. Brown Ale. OG was 1.062, 9 days in primary, and it now reads 1.019. The yeast was SAFEALE S-04, which, from what I understand, is supposed to have an attenuation of 70-73%. As best as I can tell, it is now at 69%. There is no krausen, no airlock activity and doesn't have...

    Dry Hopping Question...

in how to brew, palmer says (pg 44) "don't worry about adding unboiled hops to the fermenter when you are dry hopping. infection and beer spoilage from the hops just doesn't happen."

    primary temperature fluctuation

I'd call that a big ol' RDWHAHB. 85, I'd be a little concerned, but 72? Don't worry man, you're golden....

    Explain Hops to me...

So in order to do a fwh with extract brewing, would it make sense to add the bittering hops to the seeping grains before the boil? Would this be in addition to the bittering hops or the bittering hops simply added in at an earlier stage?

Opening Ale Pail to get SG samples

What has been said already makes sense to me. I will add, however, that everything I've read and experienced makes me believe that the less you mess with your beer, the better it will be. Taking a SG reading is good, but there is no need to screw with it 2 days after you brew. I don't bother...
