    Mystery of the disappearing head

Sure thing Yooper! Give me a heads up when the date comes closer and we'll see what my schedule is! Shoot me an email though because I'm about done with this site. I never get a straight answer from people when I ask a question and people now have gotten all hissy and defensive because I don't...

    Mystery of the disappearing head

Wow, some people here are real pricks. Thanks for a nice response to my question. It's all the same hardware and length. I've been meaning to swtich tap lines to a different keg to see if the problem exists there, but haven't had the chance.

    Mystery of the disappearing head

Sorry, I don't share recipes. But, that being said, it's the same recipe I used last year (last years batch had a nice head) and it's got enough Carapils in it and other cystal malts that there SHOULD be a head. When I ferment I always throw a blow off tube on it but it wasn't needed on this...

COmpletely agree with everyone's comments about be careful who you buy them from. I usually start my Jolokias in January or February and sometimes they can take up to a full month to hatch.

    Mystery of the disappearing head

Ok brewing geeks! I've got one for you that I haven't been able to solve and it's driving me more nuts than I usually am. I've got a case of "disappearing head syndrome" but in a very unique way. But first the back story: Brewed a 12 gallon batch of doppelbock, split it into two different...

    Official Hot Sauce Making Thread

There's tons of places online (www.heatandflavor.com for example) that sell dried pods and powders. They are quite tasty (having eaten many fresh pods in my time). Kinda smokey and earthy flavor.

It was in the experimental category.

The stupidest comment on your beer

Got one of the judging sheets back from a homebrew competition I entered (BJCP sanctioned event) for my Pumpkin Smoke Porter. Under the overall section the judge stated "Smoke does not need to be in their". First of all, it's spelled, "THERE" not "their". Second of all, YES, THE SMOKE DOES NEED...

If you were a commercial brewer

I'm a commercial brewer but I only read (not troll) for research into techniques. If I have a question that's bugging me, I search the forums and read up on the wealth of knowledge here. I personally love that one!! I've had it twice (last year and once this year) and loved it both times.

    my dog loves stone IPA

Hops are deadly to dogs but in beer they are pritty much no problem (alchohol isn't that great for them either). Tons of people give their dogs beer. My dog gets a finger dip of every beer I open at home. He only wants a taste of a new beer though. If I open two of the same beer in a row he...

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

My friend, Eric, went over his Aunt's place and went into the basement. In the refridgerator was some old beers. He asked his Aunt about them and she said they were his Uncle's before he died. The beers were estimated to be 5 years old. One of them was a Miller Lite in a can. We drank it for...

The stupidest comment on your beer

That got a snort out of me. Pretty funny. I thought I'd heard everything at this point but the new ones keep coming.

    Help backsweetening a blueberry melomel

Add potassium sorbate to inhibit yeast budding, then add a cup of honey, taste it, then repeat until it's where you want it to be.....that's what I've always heard and have just now started to practice.

Pressing pumpkins for their juice for a mead...advice?

I forgot to mention, this will be a braggot. Still trying to work out the details on this one....

Pressing pumpkins for their juice for a mead...advice?

Ya, I'm going to do all that. I've done pumpkin ale's many times. I want it so that it's similar to a melomel (sp), where the fruit is fermented with all the rest of the stuff. I'm just trying to decide on what form I want it in the fermentor, juice, puree, etc.

So you are just saying throw it into the fermentor then, huh.

Pressing pumpkins for their juice for a mead...advice?

I want to make a Maple Pumpkin Mead and was thinking about renting a apple press, sticking pumpkins in it, pressing the juice out and using that as a base for some of the fermentables. My questions are as follows: a) Has anyone done this? b) Think 20 pounds of pie pumpkins would net me enough...

Pumpkin beers: Discussion, developing recipes, tips tricks, and a good practices

I did but actually took it to the next level. I racked a gallon and a half into a hallowed out pumpkin and stuck an airlock on it. Kept it in there for a week then bottled it. It turend out really interesting. The beer had absorbed a little bit of that Jack-o-Lantern taste (I didn't use pie...
