    degassing rig

When I looked into the foodsaver option, I read similar stories. That's why I went in a different direction. I still believe the a aspirator is the way to go, you can find them new for a little more than a foodsaver, you can rack, bottle and degas with it and it will last forever. I can't...

    degassing rig

I believe using a foodsaver to degas would most likely break the foodsaver. This would result in and angry wife, as well as carbonated wine. Just my 2cents I could be wrong.

That is an aspirator pump from hospital supply store, I have one similar to the one in the photo. And yes, it was a bit over 100 bucks so out of line with your budget, but you should realize that it does make life a bit easier with racking and degassing, I even use it to bottle. Set the...

Yup, I got a new aspirator/suction machine. I have something close to the picture, but not exact. I bottle all my wine with it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140555591255&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:1123

    chaptalize question

I guess you're right Yoop. The starting gravity is projected to be 1.075-1.090. If it's less than 1.090 I will add to bring it there. I would not want to throw away the 90 bucks because of a science experiment. :)

    chaptalize question

I am going to start a 6gallon Cab kit tomorrow. I am expecting a 1.090 SP which gives me a potential alcohol of 12.2 I have looked at the table, and I need about 36 oz of sugar to bump it to 14.9 I was planning on adding the water/sugar combo on day 3 or 4 of fermentation as not to...

Does anyone have any experience in this realm? I have an Asian/Korean store close-by. If you can name a particular brand and type grain, please do so. Thanks in advance.
