    Amarillo Summit IPA

Thanks a lot for what looks like an interesting recipe. I've altered it to create a black IPA, and I'm excited to brew it hopefully sometime soon. I dropped the crystal, added melanoidin and chocolate malts. Also changed up the hop schedule/quantities, but left the lineup the same. I'll be...

So I realized I've been brushing my keggle's paint off with brass that contains iron.

I plan on hitting the keggle with fine sandpaper once all the brushing is done, so hopefully that will play a part. I think part of the re-passivation that you get when doing the "scotch-brite + bar-keeper's friend" combo is from the abrasive qualities of both, which goes right along with your...

So I realized I've been brushing my keggle's paint off with brass that contains iron.

A little researching leads me to believe that I can re-passivate the surface of the SS by using some scotch-brites and BKF. Hopefully this will help keep away the rust, otherwise I probably will just hit the exterior with some black hi-temp paint. (and get another keg, probably, using this one...

    Warning! Keggle owners please read!

So I realized I've been brushing my keggle's paint off with brass that contains iron.

Did a magnet test, because I was curious, and the brass bristles are attracted to the magnet. Now I'm afraid I've doomed myself to RUST! I thought I was a smarty-pants when I started using my 4" brass brush attachment for a drill, but looks like this is some cheap brass. Is there...

    Keg/Carboy Washer

I'm glad I came across this, as I just got a hold on a 1/2bbl sanke that I'm going to ferment in. This will do a hard job in an easy way. Was kinda worried about not being able to see in there. Getting a mirror/flashlight working inside a small hole would be tough! Thanks!

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I was thinking the same thing about the yeast cake possibly carrying that flavor over, but since it seemed to be mostly a mead thing with the off-flavor, thought that topping up with AJ and dextrose would mute the flavor and allow the yeast to do its thing with the new fermentables... Would...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I'm thinking about making some apfelwein tomorrow on top of my mead yeast cake. I just racked the mead into secondary which used Montrachet, but I have a question. I noticed that the mead had a serious medicinal quality to it, and upon researching this particular yeast strain, realized that it...

Anyone bottling in 9-12 oz. glass coke bottles?

Just to throw it out there, the reason why you think Coke tastes better in glass is because these use sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. At least that's the case with Cheerwine, and I think I checked into it with the Coke some time ago. Thanks for the good idea, btw

    Iodophor Dosage

What dosage do you guys use with your Iodophor? I notice that it smells strongly at full strength, which is 1 TSP / 1.5 gallon. It freaks me out, so I use 1 TSP / 4 gallon. I assume it works, because it has up til this point avoided bacterial contamination in the couple cases I've used this...

    DIY Chilled Conical/Keg Fermenter

Keep it comin' this is a cool project. Definitely makes me want to learn to TIG weld. Out of curiosity, how did you cut the hopper in half? I'm trying to imagine an easy way to make a straight cut around a circular object. I'm sure there's an easy way, but it's not occuring to me. Awesome work...

    Custom tap handle search

Very nice, sir Monty. I will definitely take some cues from you when I get the loot together to build a keezer/start a brewery and distribute the tap handles. Those are surely cheaper (and more personally creative) than the ones I got quoted at some point. If only I had access to a lathe. That...

    FlyGuy's T-siphon: a $3 replacement for an autosiphon

Nice. I have been getting poor performance out of my autosiphon, I'll have to build one of these. I thought about putting a valve on my 3rd hose instead of the hose clamp but that is ridiculous. The only thing I don't like is about it is cleaning even more plastic tubing than I already have to...

    two room cold room plan

I know I'm bringing up a really old topic, but I wanted to simply correct something I saw. Window A/C units don't force any air into a room. They only strip the heat from the air already in the room and dump it out the back. I can't see any pressure increase from that, though I might be...

    Stony Grounds Choco Porter

I decided to make a beer with some leftover ingredients and other randomness that was laying around, so here's the end result. Stony Grounds Choco Porter (makes 1 gal.) Ingredients: 10 oz. Eden Organic liquid barley malt extract (dark) 1/3 c. steel cut Irish oatmeal .5 oz. Mount Hood hops 1...
