Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Update that’s way overdue: 40F was my ambient room temp in the basement it turned out. I actually suspect the thermostat is toast which is cool because that’s why the freezer was free.

    How to hard-wire the STC-1000

How did you connect the temperature probe? Can you simply connect the freezer's temp probe up to the STC1000, or will I have to chance drilling through the freezer body and possibly hitting a freon line? I am currently running without a collar (pin lock kegs....) and tried to use the coarse...

When is "Session" not really "session"

+1 on smaller grain bill. Less attenuative yeast just leaves sugar there so if it makes a difference it gets taken up by being sluggish with less intoxication. More intoxication and less sluggish is probably funner than the other way around, so either smaller grain bill or let the game devolve.

    What do you drive?

2001 Pathfinder with a manual, I love to shift! Most of the year my daily driver is a fixed gear Bianchi, red and fast, no shifting there!

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Got my GE FCM5DRBWH for free on Craigslist and just screwed it in until it got stiffer to turn. Holding at 40F in a quart of water so I call it a success. For this model I found the screw on the side of the thermostat just adjacent to the knob post. Easy access to the thermostat by unscrewing...

    Low-ABV beer?

And I tried it tonight, the Hairless Dog. Pretty disappointed, tasted like unfermented wort. Hoping you had better success

Using sugar to prime in keg?.

So I think the OP is asking how to manage carbing the third keg since there is no capacity to refrigerate it. I suggest that you look up the pressure required to carb it to your specified volumes of CO2 at the basement temperature of 63. Dial down to serving pressure when one of the other kegs...

    Low-ABV beer?

Thanks for sharing! I’d like to keep learning more about low abv. I just found out about Hairless Dog, local here in MPLS, and is claiming to be the first NA craft brewery. Looking to try it soon.

Masters Degree Study Needs Your Help! (it's quick)

I’d be happy to respond again if you update the survey. I know in my masters work it took a couple of tries to get the questions right, and you can probably get a lot of feedback from this community that can help you tighten it up, evidenced by this thread. Keep it up. It’d be cool to see your...

What do we enjoy about brewing - the process, the results or the tinkering?

For me it’s about process, socializing during the brew, talking about beer and brewing, diy equipment, and drinking it. Not greatly fond of cleaning, but take it as it comes. Not too interested in automation as it is less hands on. Similarly I like working on my bike, my Pathfinder, and my...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

Carpentry paid the bills till I went to grad school. I still do as much as I can, sometimes for pay[emoji41]. Really I just like putting things together (stairways, cabinets, mash tuns, etc) to balance out the therapy.

Do You Buy From Northern Brewer?

You have a point about consistency. I try to do what I can to vote with my dollars, but still buy stuff at Amazon. I bike to work but that means clients often drive to me. I don’t shop at WalMart but I do at Target, and there’s probably not a big difference. Ultimately it means I am a little...

Do You Buy From Northern Brewer?

Northern Brewer was my LHBS. My brewing buddy and I have had to get creative to avoid them. He feels more strongly about it than I do, but we also have enjoyed sourcing ingredients more creatively (truth be told I make him do it[emoji41]) and reduce costs by buying by the bag.

Anyone have a good Ginger beer recipe

I think we are on the right track here. Thinking about making a ginger Pilsner myself. I also love Reeds, the extra ginger variety. And I am intrigued by the alcoholic ginger beer. I will cease to refer to a beer that has ginger in it as ginger beer [emoji41]

Anyone have a good Ginger beer recipe

What would one call an ale or lager flavored with ginger? If unhopped could it be classified as a Gruit, or would that be reserved for the specific Gruit spice blends? Would one say Pilsner/porter/brown ale etc spiced with ginger? I’m interested because Every time I talk about any of the...
