Trip to Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago, IL

Yeah, I had considered that being the case. I may just grab a bag of regrets from a fast food place and get to Michigan and join the bachelor party I'm supposed to going to. Save Chicago for an actual trip there. Good looking out on the ice cream spot though.

Trip to Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago, IL

You'd be correct in that my trip to GR is just taking me around the southern tip of Chicago. I'm really just looking for a couple places that won't take me too too far out of my way to grab a burger or sandwich and a beer for lunch both too and from. I want to make decent time on the way there...

Trip to Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago, IL

Hey Folks, I'm spending a couple days in Grand Rapids and Lowell, MI in October for a wedding. So I'm looking for a few recommendations for breweries to try and hit while I'm there. I'm 100% going to hit up Founders but looking for maybe two or three more. My trip will also take me through the...

Wet Hops for sale in January! We grow indoors

This is pretty cool. I was just looking into wet hopping techniques after finding a local company that allows customers to pick their own hops. This seems like a cool way to get around waiting for their harvest. Just curious, how quickly would you recommend using these after taking delivery...

First Keezer Build Arctic King 5cu ft

God, I really do need to get an updated picture in here. Justintime, that looks excellent. I need to upgrade to some nice faucets, mine have been sticking like mad lately. I far as the drip trays go, I had the same thought. I bought some normal wall/door mount ones but set them on the ground in...

First Keezer Build Arctic King 5cu ft

I fit a 2 gallon corny on my hump and its actually a little difficult to reach in and grab the handle. You'll have plenty of space. Justin, Glad you were able to get that fit. I had a feeling it would work but definitely tight.

    Brew Art

Wow that thing is weird. I don't mind the idea of an automated system but I think I'd rather look towards the likes of pico. Granted that does mean you have to source you're own ingredients and fermenter then worrry about temp control but this brew"art" system looks like just an automated...

First Keezer Build Arctic King 5cu ft

Alright, I didn't take any measurements but I'd say there is definitely enough space to squeeze a 9 inch keg, you'd be pushing it to get a 9.25 inch one on the bottom with an 8.5. If you want to dispense commersial beer though, I would recommend getting a second corney and when you buy...

First Keezer Build Arctic King 5cu ft

Things are pretty tight with my 8.5 inch cornies on the bottom but depending on how you run lines, you should be able to fit one 8.5 and one sixth barrel on the bottom. Mine too is currently filled and kegs are touching but it may be due to where I positioned my lines. I'll report back tomorrow...

    Kegged beer starts off watery

How many beers is "A few days?" How are your lines before the new keg? Empty, old beer, full of water or starsan? I will often try the first pint then immediately pour it out for the homies. After that Its usually good, occasionally it takes 2 or 3 pints to get "good" beer from. Although after...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When the worst kind of gas leak in your house is CO2

    Mixed culture - asteroids!?

If I saw my fermentation doing this, I would watch it for hours. That is so cool. It has to be some CO2 causing the initial burst. But I've got no theory on the ropiness.

Ideas for insulating a cooler mash tun

The most I've ever even thought about doing to my cooler mash tun is painting it black and stealing some heat from the sun to help it maintain its temperature better. Not sure it would help all the much but it definitely would make my coolers look more purpose built rather than like the home...

Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

Here's mine, 4 pretty successful brews so far and can't think of anything to change yet. Although, I did add a shelf after this picture was taken and I'm working on plans to add a collapsible milling station to one end eventually.
