How low can a peltier go?

I have seen claims that will lower the ambient temp from 40*F to 125*F. Assuming a 75*F room, is it possible to use one or more peltiers to lower the temp to 0*F? This is going to require a MONSTER 12V power supply... :rockin:

    Longer Braid = Lower Efficiency?

I finally finished my new MLT. It's an 11 gallon SS pot fitted into a 10 gallon Igloo cooler. I went with a 3 foot braid instead of a 2 foot, like my old MLT had. Just tried it on a batch of wheat. Had excellent drainage, but my efficiency was pretty low. My water calculations were bang...

    Apple juice with potassium sorbate?

I'm thinking about trying to make a batch of apple cider, but I'm confused. The juice I'm looking at contains potassium sorbate. I've read that potassium sorbate will stop all fermentation, and I have read that as long as you make a nice big starter, potassium sorbate will not prevent good...

    Purchasing Malted Corn?

Does anybody sell corn malt online? Or, will I have to malt my own? I've tried flaked corn, but it does not produce any noticeable corn flavors. This is for my Mexican Amber Lager. I want to add a few pounds of corn malt to the next batch.

    Diluted Extracts?

I'm going to make up some diluted extracts for beer flavoring on the fly. Just some small Mason jars, with measured amounts of store bought or home made fruit extracts, diluted in measured amounts of vodka. What I'm thinking is to get the dilution right where a half teaspoon will...

Bad Burnt Batch - Odd Issue

A couple of weeks ago, I brewed a 10 gallon batch of AG Dunkelweiss. 10lb White Wheat 9lb Munich Dark The sparge stuck, I had to stir it pretty good to get it to drain. In the BK, I kept getting a burnt smell (this is an electric BK, with dual 2kw 120w elements). After the boil, the...

    More Precise Valve?

I use a standard ball valve on the output of my wort chugger pump. This allows me to control the flow from the BK to my plate chiller. By reducing/increasing the flow, I can alter the temperature of the cooled wort going into the fermenter. Problem is, the ball valve control is too coarse...

    Braid -vs- False Bottom?

I am building a new MLT using an 11 gallon SS pot. Currently, I use a loop of 3/4 SS braid in my current MLT. For the new one, I'm thinking of using a false bottom. Does a false bottom increase efficiency over a braid? I batch sparge.

If I add a HERMS coil to my Keggle HLT...

...will it throw off my sight glass calibrations? I am thinking it will. By as much as a gallon, I wonder?

    Fermentation Chiller Died

The 4cf fridge on my fermentation chiller box has been making dying noises. Today, when I went to check on the All Wheat Hefe I brewed Friday, the temp was up to 68*F. Yep, the fridge had died. I stuck a frozen gallon milk jug of water inside, and put some 2 liter soda bottles of water in the...

    Yeast for Skeeter Pee?

I don't know Jack about wine yeast. Which yeast would be best for a batch of Skeeter Pee, or does it really matter? I'm guessing a BIG starter would be in order, probably just made with sugar.

    Water Chiller for Plate Chiller?

Right now, I cool my wort with a plate chiller fed with ice water from a 70qt cooler. I have to add water and ice to the cooler while the submersible pump is running. I have been considering replacing the cooler with a plastic barrel. I can get 55 gallon plastic barrels fairly cheap, and...

    Bulk Aging in a Sanke?

I usually make 13 gallon batches of my Amber Ale. It's pretty good right out of the fermenter, but after a month or six weeks of aging at room temperature, it gets GREAT. Does anybody use sanke kegs for bulk aging? A 13 gallon batch would fit in one just fine, and I could move it from the...

Use starters, or make new ones?

I planned to brew a 10 gallon light lager last weekend, so made a couple of starters with Wyeast Pilsen. Well, stuff happened (birthday party, inlaws stayed until Monday, the house flooded, hangover) and I did not get to brew. So, the brew is delayed until this coming Saturday. The...

Whatever happened to the cheap Chinese conicals?

Wasn't there some news a while back about some company in China gearing up to produce inexpensive SS conical fermentors? What ever happened with that?

    Brewer's Edge Keg Pressure Tester?

Williams Brewing carries these: http://www.williamsbrewing.com/KEG-PRESSURE-TESTER-P715C237.aspx Anybody tried one? One of the comments says it leaks.

    Best Deal on Perlicks?

Who has the best deal on Perlick faucets right now? Time to start upgrading my kegerator, and rotate the old taps back to the portable rig.

Beer line cut off valves for kegerators?

What kind of valves would work as beer line cut offs? I would imagine a SS valve would work, but what kind?

The High Density Element Wort Scorching Myth

I keep seeing "High Density Elements Will Scorch Your Wort" in threads. I thought we debunked and put that myth to bed long ago. Now, an HD element, directly in the MASH, is not a good idea. Grain can stick to the element, scorch, and burn. But that is in the MASH. I run 2000 watt...

Jeebus, Neon Beer Lights are Expensive!

I've seen a few crappy lights for $100, but all the nice ones are $150+ Wouldn't mind a few neat lights for my office, it needs some color.
