BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

Just watched the Uni-con build. Nice to see what the componets are & where they can be mounted in the control panel. Looking forward to the next steps in the 50 amp assembly.

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Good idea to keep the two 60amp 240 volt power feeds separate. I was trying to figure if you were making a 120 amp bus, which would increase wire size. Also could create a short circuit between the two 120 volt phases (L1 & L2) if not wired correctly. Now I know to keep the two 60amp power...

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Really nice 120 amp panel. I'm going to look over your electric control brew panel closely. May enlarge componets and see if I can identify them. It helps me understand the system. My present three 20 gallon kettles is a rims set up. The rims tube element is on 120 volt at 1800 watts as I...

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Great recommendation ! Build the system with a 60 amp 240 volt feed with space in the panel for a future additional circuit for a 50 or 60 amp feed. Also may go to 6000 watt elements in the future.

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Must remember wire size. The 100amp #2 wire is hard to work with for sure ! Think I will stay with a 50 amp system feeding it with #6 wire which is still stiff wire. Then #10 wire to the 30 amp heat elements.

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Presently only need to run two 30 amp elements at a time. I like to plan a system I can modify or upgrade later. Running two more elements would be interesting. Those 30 amp panel mount gfic are interesting, never saw them before.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

OK, use the same ssr's that many electric brew panels use with pid controllers. Just remembered that most brew panel pid's put out up to 32 vdc.

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

What voltage ssr's are required ? Most I see are 120 vac. Is something different better for a brucontrol system ? I have plenty of experience with 120/240 ac voltage. Now learning to use the low voltage hardware stuff or at least trying !

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

When powering from two 60 amp gfci are you feeding both into one control panel to power the heat elements or using more than one panel. Not sure how 100 amp panels are set up with gfic's ? I have seen pool electric panels with a bunch of gfic breakers in the panel feeding individual outlets...

Auber EZ Boil 320 controller/power regulator.

Just found it at Auber Instruments as you pointed out. Will order it and then start playing with the EZ Boil.

Margins when installing Heating Element in BIAB Kettle

I have mounted the element and temperature probes too high in my kettle so I can not do small batch brews. Yes keep the componets low in the kettle. Be careful with the BIAB and keep the metal strainer from touching the electric element. Also in a 3 kettle system in the HLK when installing a...

Auber EZ Boil 320 controller/power regulator.

I want to practice programming this controller. The instruction manual indicates that the temperature probe should be connected before turning the unit on. I don't have a spare probe. Would be nice if I could provide power to the unit and turn it on and practice in my office. My electric panel...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I kind of figured this panel would be tight for my system. I will most likely put a side car panel next to it. Also another idea is to use a regular 60 amp sub panel fed from a spa gfci panel. In the sub panel I can install 4-30 amp circuit breakers for the kettle heat elements. Feed 10 gauge...

BruControl: Brewery control & automation software

I just got a 24"x24"x8" steel panel. I guess my build will be an electric 4 element with interlock to only operate 2 elements at once 240 volt 60 amp panel controlled by BruControl. It will be a slow project as I have to study other BruContro builds and read the information from their web site...

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

Just like to have 4 elements that can be used as needed. Really like to plan and build and listen to the brew members ideas and recommendations. Most likely going to 1 barrel system and 2 elements in the HLT and Boil Kettle. I built a 3 panel system having a element powered from each panel. For...

    HERMS system for 2bbl brewery

Interesting question. I'm thinking of going to a larger brew system. 1-3 barrel electric. Also haven't made a decision as to herms or rims.

Power for 4 Electric 5500 Watt Heat Elements

I'm building an Electric Panel to fire 4 Electic 5500 watt heat elements simultaneously. Thinking of powering the 240 volt panel using two 50 or 60 amp span gfci panels. Or If I use just one 100 amp panel how would I obtain the gfci ? Span gfci panels seem to be available up to 60 amps.

Auber SYL-2381 Temp Controller with RS-485

Still studying BruControl. Looks like a great system but a real learning curve figuring out the components needed and interfacing to computer and touch screen. Thinking maybe doing some simple kit projects first. No problem assembling and designing a 240 volt pid panel which I really enjoy...

Auber SYL-2381 Temp Controller with RS-485

Has anyone used an Auber SYL-2381 temp controller with RS-485 to run an SSR for a heating element in a kettle and interfaced it with there computer ? Just reading about it on the Auber Instrument Web Site.

    Brew Buddy l (Herms)

How are you doing with the controller project ? Are the install directions good ? I see that after you make the purchase you can then download the instructions for the build. How do you like the brew boil 320 units ? They appear to be similar to the 2352 pids that others used to use.
