    Recipe critique - Rye IPA

Correct, I used EdWort's as a framework, had to scale back a little to accomidate my 5gal MLT. I am pretty sure I like Chinook (love SN Celebration Ale) and I loved Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye so I figured I'd give this one a shot!

HBT... my story (and why beer is taking over my apartment)

First off... I may have had 1 too many Apfelwein's.... All off you (I was going to say guys but then I remembered all off the great advice from Yooper) have done more to foster and encourage the homebrew obsession more than i could possibly imagine. I haven't posted much but I have been...

Anyone older than me ever get carded?

I'm only 23 and rarely get carded. The SHMBO is 25 and is always asked for ID... which never ceases to piss her off :-) Funny carding story: when i was in high school I worked at a walgreen's. We had one clerk who was so afraid of getting in trouble she carded everybody. One day she carded...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just tried my first batch of Apfelwein: 5 gal white house apple juice 1 pound brown sugar EC-1118 yeast Primary 4 weeks, primed with 5oz dextrose, its been in the bottle for a week. Just chilled one down and gave it a try. Tastes pretty good and the clarity is spectacular. Thanks...

The Bier Garden in Portsmouth, VA sports a beer menu of over 300 selections and has one of the most educated bar/waitstaff of any place I've ever been. (Not to mention pretty good Bavarian food) The Bier Garden - Portsmouth, VA

    Brew kettle spigot sanitation

I am currently doing 3 gal extract boils but want to switch to full volume boils. I am looking at brew kettles with a spigot so that I can drain the wort directly into the fermenter. I am using a home-made "boosted" immersion chiller (h20 runs through a coil in an ice bath prior to running...

    IPA/Weiss Hybrid

Last christmas (before I started homebrewing) I was in NYC and took the opportunity to visit the Brookyln Brewery. At the bar they had a limited edition, draft only beer that I believe they called "hoppleweizen". It had the color, yeast haze, and mild malt character of a heffeweizen but had...

    Acetobacter Infection?

Just wanted to point out - I never said I "knew" what was wrong with the beer, or that it was in fact an acetobacter infection. I am however a working chemist and I know what vinegar smells (and tastes) like. The reason for the post was to get input from those more experienced than myself...

    Acetobacter Infection?

I have been using bleach solution (~2 tbsp per gal) and then rinsing with pre-boiled water. I think my problem is that some of the beer shot up into the bulb (which I dont think I sanitized). I thought I could make the extraction more smoothly than I did (I am definitely considering a wine...

    Acetobacter Infection?

I am new to home brewing and for an initial batch I decided to go with a standard no-nonsense pale ale. Everything was going great; primary fermentation took off in about 6-12 hours and kept bubbling away for another 3+ days after which the beer steadily cleared and smelled great. I...
