    No more rehydrating. I sprinkle!

I rehydrate and fermentation starts in 8 to 12 hours. I sprinkle and fermentation starts in 8 to 12 hours. It finishes at the same time too. If I was fermenting over 1.060 then I would rehydrate or pitch two packets. In fact the Fermentis package states " sprinkle on wort". Save...

    Clear Fermentation buckets

Why can't some one make a clear fermentation bucket? I have a carboy as well as several buckets but hate it. Takes longer to clean and is much heavier than a bucket. I like to watch it ferment though so why don't we have clear buckets? Just curious.

Chrome plated brass shanks from a perlick tower, ok?

I purchased a used perlick 4 tap tower from eBay. It is in great shape but the shanks are chrome plated and the plating is gone on the inside of them. I can see the brass. Is this an issue? I suspect not as this tower came from an Irish pub and I would think that brass on beer would come up...

Help with Dunkel and Kolsch yeast

Well I made the Death by Dunkel recipe and it is 4 weeks old stopped bubbling at 16 days. My OG was 1.060 (at 75 deg) and it fermented at 61 degs on Wyeast Kolsch for 4 weeks. I just moved it to the keg but the gravity was 1.018 (at 61 deg). When I opened the bucket there was about a half...

    FS:Brass Taps/faucet

I just bought a 4 tap tower and do not need more brass taps. I cleaned these last night and polished them. My faucet brush was destroyed by the 5 year old (don't ask) but I soaked them in hot PBW and polished then reassembled them. I have pics so email if you want them. I HAVE 4 taps for...

How do you clean your Stout faucet?

I have been using mine for a year with about 5 batches and this is how I clean it. 1. Run hot Oxy threw it for a min then let sit for 20-30 minutes. Run the rest threw which is usually 2 or so gallons. 2. Rinse with cold water about 2 or 3 gallons. 3. Run Starsan threw and let sit...

    Is my mash too low?

I just brewed my 2nd all grain. I did Death by Dunkel since my basement is about 57 degs. It was harder than I thought to mash 11.65 lbs in 4 gals of water. I preheated the tun then added 4 gals at 165 deg but the mash went down to 147. Since I was at the top of my 5 gal RM tun I couldn't...

Warsteiner Dunkel recipe does NOT exist

I have looked here and everywhere and no dunkel recipe. Please don't point me to the Chainsaw death by dunkel thread as his isn't Warsteiner's. Does anyone have this recipe. Both my father and I love this brew but the price is almost $30 a case so I would like to make it instead. Thanks...

BJ's stainless turkey fryer set- $89

I was walking through yesterday when I noticed the 30 Qt stainless set with a nice burner, two stainless baskets and a pot. The pot wasn't too thin. Pretty sturdy for a 6 gallon boil. If I didn't already have a pot, I would have purchased it.

Which yeast for my Murphys Stout clone?

I will be brewing a clone of Murphy's on Saturday. The last time I did it, I used Wyeast Irish Ale. This time I don't want to spend the $6. I have S04 and Notty in the fridge. Which would you pick and why? The catalog description for S04 is too vague. Notty= Produces minor fruity and...

Why isn't there more dry yeasts?

I love the low cost and ease of dry yeast. Notty, and S04 are my faves but why aren't there more varieties like liquid yeast? Is it too hard to freeze dry them? Is it a licensing issue? Liquid yeasts are great but at $7-8 (with ice pack) it adds a lot to the kit costs.

N2 tank has a CO2 reg fitting- confused

I got a No2 tank a few months ago on CL. It says 75% NO2 and 25% Co2. 2000lbs at 70 degrees. I never looked at the regulator connection but when I went to put my Nitro reg on it, it was a male to male connector. I took my Co2 reg off my Co2 tank and put it on the Nitro and it registers 1500...

Why is Murphy's Stout so hard to find?

I love Murphy's. To me, it is much better than Guinness or Beamish. But, it is very hard to find now. Most of the beer stores in my area (Harford County MD) do not have it anymore and all of the bars only had it for St. Patty's Day. I have the clone kit from AHB and will make it this week...
