Lambic (BOS, 3rd BOS and Two Golds)

I haven't checked on this thread in a while, but perhaps you saw my earlier post about taking 2nd BOS to Amanda's lambic at the Drunk Monk last year. I can assure you that the judges, particularly on the Best of Show panel, know plenty about lambics. Yes, it won what is a lightly...

    19th Annual Boneyard Brewoff

congrats to the winners. My Dopplebock placed 2nd. Also, the wood-aged beer that took 2nd was from a barrel project down in my basement :) along with Joe Dragon who posted above.

    19th Annual Boneyard Brewoff

As Organizer of the DMC, I check the email MANY times a day. I can't imagine not responding to emails and I cannot fathom taking this long to post results. We're pushed from every angle to run as quality a competition as possible. It seems no one is pushing these guys.

    19th Annual Boneyard Brewoff

Darwin - did you get my PM about the Drunk Monk Challenge coming up in March? I urge you enter, you will not be disappointed in the competition. Be warned, it's a tough competition though, winning is not easy! And barring major technical difficulties, I guarantee that results will be posted...

    19th Annual Boneyard Brewoff

Save your time. I already sent emails to the 2 guys listed on their competition's site. Neither has bothered to respond. I wont be entering this competition anymore. And this was already after a 3yr hiatus.

    19th Annual Boneyard Brewoff

Does anyone know why it takes this competition so long to post results? Year after year. Is there anyone out there affiliated with this thing?

Lambic (BOS, 3rd BOS and Two Golds)

Amanda - Hi. I haven't posted on this forum in a long time, but decided to logon to do some reading on sours. Came across your thread here. DARN YOU! Your Lambic beat out my Scottish for Best in Show at the DMC. lol. Congrats. Must have been a great beer to have done so well. Good...

    Pilsner Urquell Homebrew Contest

I used both WL800 and WL802. I did a taste test with some very senior members of BJCP, along with Mark Naski from The Stables in St. Louis (he is extremely well versed in this style), and it was decided (unanimously), that the WL800 was a better beer. We sampled them both alongside decent...

    Pilsner Urquell Homebrew Contest

Hey congrats! Looks like fun. I was wondering if you can give more details on the evening. What time did it run to? Was the food and beer complementary or did it have to be purchased? Was the winning beer a spot-on clone of Pilsner Urquell, or was it just a 'really good pilsner'...

    2011 San Diego NHC

Or was it a bunch of people who only knew eachother by screen name (until the conference) and got up on stage together?? Look Im not trying to stir the pot. I certainly think things like The BN, HBT, etc. are great and serve a very important function in homebrewing. But "brew clubs"...

    2011 San Diego NHC

Exact same for me. But I will go on record saying that it is a little lame that they won Club of the Year. And Im certainly not "envious" of them, as I won my hardware ;) The great clubs like Quaff, DOZE, and the Maltose Falcons - camaradery, enthusiasm, community, those looked like...

    best beers of NHC 2011

Best Commercial Beer - Stone's Double Black IPA (or at least I think that's what was being poured for the mayor's toast) Best Homebrewed Beer - a Flander's Red, I believe the dude's name was Mark Emily from Seattle. Most Overrated Beer - Janet's Brown Ale (sorry it just doesn't do anything for...

    Coconut Brown Ale

Personally I would not use a bag in the secondary. You're going to have a hard time getting it out after all that coconut expands. No, it shouldn't re-ferment. Make sure you use unsweetened coconut.

    Coconut Brown Ale

Toast about 1 - 1.5 lbs of UNSWEETENED, flaked coconut in the oven until golden brown (keep a close eye on it, it can go fast). I had to rake it around a few times on the cookie sheet. Allow to cool, add to secondary for about 10-14 days. Rack and bottle/keg. I actually racked a couple...

    2011 NHC Indianapolis?

I got 3 thru with a 4th making it to mini-BOS but not advancing. Darn, I wanted that one thru more than any other!

    5 gallon igloo portable kegerator

Cpt Kirk is right. I had this photo layinig around. I just have the faucet and portable CO2 charger mounted on the keg. I just slide some ice down in there, it stays cold all day. Not fancy but it gets it done.

    2011 NHC Indianapolis?

I guess starting next year it's going to be an online exam. If you pass, then you go and do the tasting/judging somewhere. I dont know all the details....

    2011 NHC Indianapolis?

It's particularly absurd if you consider that results are already known from Seattle and Denver. I have a few entries I would need to re-brew as well. I guess the lesson here is dont enter something that you dont have enough set aside already. And dont count on an opportunity to rebrew...

    2011 NHC Indianapolis?

No scoresheets back here either. I've heard from several sources that there were many no-shows. Judges who signed-up but just didn't show. That puts the organizers in a bind and the entire event in jeopardy. Shame on Indiana! I dont think paying the judges is the answer though. I...
