    Unibrau Mini SMaSH Tomorrow

Here are the pics. The first one is the water testing of the system the day I got it delivered.

    Unibrau Mini SMaSH Tomorrow

So my pre-boil OG was 1.030 and my final OG was 1.062. After adjusting for temp, it came out at a78.8% efficiency! Highest I have ever gotten. I am about to keg it this weekend and will pull a FG in the next day or so. Very happy with the brewing system. I will post some pics from my phone of...

    Unibrau Mini SMaSH Tomorrow

Well after firing things up, I decided to change up the grainbill and not do a SMaSH. I will do what RM-MN recommends and do that with MO or Munich. Here is what I did: 4lbs Pilsner .5 lbs Maris Otter .5 lbs Flaked Corn .3 lbs Victory Malt .25 lbs Crystal 20L .2 Torrified WHeat Centennial .5...

    Unibrau Mini SMaSH Tomorrow

Great suggestions on the hop schedule. I was breaking the hops out based on an ending IBU. The longer the hops stay in there, the higher it went according to the calculator. I might combine a few of the additions to see. I am hoping to mimic a local beer by using the pilsner. I love Munich and...

    Unibrau Mini SMaSH Tomorrow

It has been a while since I posted in these forums, but I just got my Unibrau system today, so I am going to brew a Centennial SMaSH tomorrow. I do half batches, and can't wait to get started with this easier way to brew AG. The water testing of it tonight went great! I will post some pics to...

    DUI's and you

I don't drive if I have had more than 1 beer either. My thoughts always go to the innocent victims of idiots who could have had someone drive them home or call a cab. I love beer as much as the next guy (gal), but it is not worth the risk... period. I also have couple good friends who are cops...

    Greetings from Eastern Tennessee

Welcome to TN brewing! I live in Middle TN, but my job takes me all over the state. Maybe sometime when I am in Knoxville overnight I will check in and maybe we can meet up at Smokey Mt Brewery. I haven't been to that place, but I have been wanted to stop everytime I drive through there! Again...

how can i get more body

I tend to mash at a higher temp~ 158 or so and it has worked well for me. Also I like Safale 04 as a yeast because it doesn't dry out like a Nottingham.

    First SMASH

I just finished brewing my first smash this evening- nothing special but I think it will be great. 2row and Crystal. I love how crystal smells and it is my favorite hop other than fuggles. Can't wait to get this one in the bottle. BTW- my vote is a Munich and cascade.

    Dumb Bottling Mistake

This morning I was bottling a half batch of my Simple-Minded Ale that was brewed on the anniversary of my first brew day(July 10). I didn't have the right lid to my bottling bucket, so I was covering it with my kettle's lid. I had 12 bottles sitting next to the bucket that were full with the...

Howdy! I live in Nolensville and have been brewing for about a year. This is a great place to learn from some great homebrewers.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I am brewing this now, but it looks to be a big more than the 2.5 gal I usually have. I over sparged to make up for the long boil time. Maybe it will boil down to where it needs to be, but I am throwing it in a 5 gal fermenter just in case. Here is what I went with: 6 lbs 2row 2 lbs flaked corn...

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

Great info Dan. I would be interested in how close you feel it is when you omit the chocolate malt and go with pilsner malt, torrified wheat, crystal 10L, and use the hefe yeast. I am going to do an AG version of this and I will post the step by step with photos of this. BTW- the AG version I...

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

It has been a while since I have been on! You guys have been having a great conversation about things here. I will say here that to call this a Woodchuck clone is a stretch after several batches- some turn out more like it than others, but that is because of all the experimentation that I have...

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

No worries flyweed... a bit more conditioning and the alcohol burn will fade and the other flavors will blend and mellow. One note, this isn't a very sweet brew- it has that Granny Smith apple sour, but with the malt it is a nice complex drink. I didn't get a chance to brew this past weekend...

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

A few comments.... I didn't boil after sparging- even when I mashed and everything turns out great. The chocolate malt turns this a brown to dark brown color for sure- nothing light colored about this brew. flyweed... I am looking forward to your comments. I am brewing up another batch of...

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

I use the pasteurized... I just make sure it is "not from concentrate" and only has apple juice and ascorbic acid as the ingredients.

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

I think it has a lot of apple flavor. I have never tried a flavor concentrate, so I am not sure about that. When you bottle, do a few with concentrate to see what the difference is and then you can compare the two.

    Apple Bee (Woodchuck Clone)

I really liked the mash version, but steeped grain version is good. I thought that the mashed grains developed a bit more head and held it longer. So I personally would do a batch just based on how much time I have to brew. Mashing taking a bit longer to do.
