Heading to San Francisco: Looking for Beer

City Beer Store - https://www.yelp.com/biz/city-beer-store-san-francisco one of the best places to buy any kind of beer, with many beers on tap. You can also buy bottles and drink inside. Cellarmaker mentioned above is also a few blocks away and very good. Healthy Spirits is another great beer...

    SMaSH Non american?

I made one recently with NZ Cascade. Similar to US, but slightly more pronounced bitterness and more stone fruity aroma. Worth a try if you've done US Cascade SMaSH's and want to compare!

    Opinions on adding Bacon

That's exactly how I did it for a Bacon Bourbon Stout I made a few years ago. Cooked up a few packs of bacon, drain just the fat into a 3/4 full bottle of cheap and nasty bourbon and let it sit for 2 weeks. Invite some friends over in the mean time to eat bacon sandwiches. After 2 weeks, I went...

NZ Cascade vs. US Cascade, a pale ale to compare

Fair enough! Will adjust for that and give it a brew this weekend. Thanks.

NZ Cascade vs. US Cascade, a pale ale to compare

Good question! I wanted to have a beer that combined both hops and then find the right balance between them, so by doing the opposite ends of bittering/aroma I hope to get a sense of which blend I prefer and how it could be adjusted from there.

NZ Cascade vs. US Cascade, a pale ale to compare

As someone who is living in the US but originally from New Zealand, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA - https://www.eff.org/issues/tpp) that has been in the news of late is very relevant to me. I had the idea for a beer that would make light of this deal and see which country ends up...

    Reusing old bottles

I re-use most bottles from commercial beer I buy. After drinking I briefly rinse and then put them neck down in the dishwasher. Some brands' labels fall right off while others are a bit tougher. Those ones I wait until brew day, and hold them over the steaming kettle as it boils to help them...

Can Hop Pellets be Frozen for Later Use?

I've been taping up leftover packets (1oz, 2oz) and putting them in a ziplock bag with as much air squeezed out as possible, and freezing them. I tend to use them over the next month or so each time so I'm not maintaining a large stockpile of open hops. Haven't noticed any issues, they still...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Brewing my second attempt at the Sierra Nevada Tropical IPA. 1 gallon all grain, using a 2 gallon drink cooler mash tun I cobbled together today. Currently have the same brew in the fermenter, dry hopped. Will try this one without dry hopping to test the difference.
