    Spunding Before Cold Crash

I left the spunding valve on because i didnt think it would hurt and was curious to see the psi drop on the meter, but didnt. My temp probe is taped to the side of the keg and its been about 24 hours so i would hope the liquid is cooled sufficiently

    Spunding Before Cold Crash

I’m spunding in a keg for the first time. i attached the valve and it hit 25psi after finishing fermentation at 68 degrees (so far so good) I then chilled the keg to 38 degrees, and i would expect the pressure to drop as more co2 is absorbed, but the spunding valve gauge has barely budged. Do...

First Time Growing Hops - Is This Plan Okay?

Ya a photo would be great! How many plants per obelisk do you do?

First Time Growing Hops - Is This Plan Okay?

I wanted to try growing hops this year. I have some garden boxes in my yard and want to try growing hops in one this year. I was thinking about buying these 19.5x80 square towers. I know it could be higher, but i thought i could space them from the edge of the boxes, plant a rhizome on each...

How to Connect Auto Siphon to Keg

I’m not sure what you mean. i have the ball lock post on the keg, the liquid line attached to that - but the ID of the liquid line is way to small to fit on the end of the autosiphon

How to Connect Auto Siphon to Keg

Hey All, I wanted to try a "closed-ish" transfer from fermenter to keg via an auto siphon (I also just bought fermenters that have a tap on them so I can do it that way in the future). However, the ID of the liquid lines which fit the ball lock fitting are too small to put the end of the auto...

Best Program Setup for Grainfather Brewing

Hey All, I recently acquired a Grainfather G30. I generally like their software, but it doesn't have anything to help calculate mash PH. On the other hand, Beersmith offers mash PH calculators, but comes up with a much larger (and likely incorrect) quantity of water for mash and sparge. I'm...

    Missing Target Gravity

Efficiency is 70% PH was 5.3 (bru'n water calculated) Water to grist was about 3qt/lb (full volume mash) Will bring my water down to 7 gal from 7.5 for the mash and squeeze like crazy to et my volume and see how that works next time. Should I lower my brew house efficiency in beersmith?

    Missing Target Gravity

I've done probably 4 or so 5.5 gallon BIAB brew days so far and my starting gravity is coming in consistently a few points lower than I'm estimating on BeerSmith. I noticed my volume was a bit high on the last batch, so today I took care to make sure that after my mash I had about 6.5...

    Why Bitter With Willamette?

    Thanks for explaining!

    Why Bitter With Willamette?

I've seen a few recipes with lower AA hope used for bittering. I've come to assume that a 60 minute addition isn't contributing noticeable flavor so you should use a high AA low cohumulone hop for that purpose. I'm curious why certain hope are being used in these cases. I tried Yoopers...

    Slight Sourness in Wheat Beer

Here is the recipe for my first AG brew (3gal batch). Malt: 2.3% Acid Malt 40% US 2 Row 40% White Wheat 3.5% Crystal 20 14.2% Oats Hops: FWH, 12.7IBU Hallertauer 20m, 7IBU Hallertauer 0m, 1.1IBU Saaz 1/2 ounce Saaz dry hop Yeast: wyeast 1318 (london ale III) Water: built from distilled, 1g...

    Dry hopping with wyeast 1318

I use 1318 a fair bit. I dry hop in a sock and push it down a bit with my thief, then I take a gravity sample.

    My DIY Ferm Chamber

Now that I've got it cold should I keep in in a fridge or is it fine to let it warm back up to cellar temps?

    My DIY Ferm Chamber

I'll add a fan, that's a good idea! I decided to throw beer in since I was cold crashing and I thought it would be better for the beer to be cold for a while. Is it better to just store in a cool part of my house?

    My DIY Ferm Chamber

I converted an old standup freezer for my ferm chamber. It has cooling shelves so I carefully bent a couple of those back, I still need to build a flat surface for the bottom section but I think I should be able to get 4 buckets/carboys in at a time. I hooked up a temp controller to it and...

    Saison Recipe Design

I'm going to do a 90 minute boil for DMS. That said, have you seen the stuff on that on Brulosophy? Makes me wonder if it's 100% necessary. I wonder if batch size influences boil length/vigor to drive off DMS.

    Saison Recipe Design

I'll certainly defer to your judgment as I haven't nearly your level of expertise. My reasoning is mostly that I just kind have this feeling that I could get all of the flavors I'm looking for by controlling yeast/malt/hops and fermentation temp and not need to add spices to get that. Maybe I'm...

Bru'n Water, Mash PH and BIAB

I'm doing full volume BIAB and not sparging, so i didn't fill that out. I did add my grain bill. I'll try and find the thread he mentioned that in, sounds super relevant!

Bru'n Water, Mash PH and BIAB

I had been using the water primer that's been posted here for previous batches, I decided to use the bru'n water spreadsheet for a Saison I'm making this weekend. I've attached my adjustment summary. Does this look like I'm missing anything? I'm building the profile entirely from...
