    Digital Refractometer

I have been looking to get a refractometer but I think it would be really cool to have a digital one. I found this one really cheap. Anyone have experience with a digital refractometer? Are they any good? This one is not that expensive so I would not feel too bad wasting the money on it if it...

    One year anniversary

Today marks one year since I have started brewing. My first batch was an extract wheat recipe I picked up at my LHBS. They had forgotten to give me yeast so I used bread yeast and I fermented between 75-90 degrees. The LHBS also forgot the priming sugar so when it came to bottling time I used...

    Houses from the 1950's

So I have been browsing the housing market in hopes of purchasing a house in about a year. One thing that I have noticed is that many of the houses build in the 50's and 60's only have one bathroom. They have 3 or 4 bedrooms but only 1 bathroom. Did people not use the bathroom in the 50's? Maybe...

    Hallertau Hop fields destroyed

Last Monday night until Tuesday morning massive thunderstorms swept over North-Western Europe. They were joined by serious hail fall. These storms caused a lot of damage and threw traffic into turmoil. But the most sad result of these storms is that it looks like most of Hallertau Hop fields...

I just picked up my ticket for the Saturday session. All they had left were the beer only tickets, none of the beer/food tickets. It might be sold out by next week so get your tickets if you're going. FTH says that they will have beer above 6%. Also I just heard that the Western in Vestavia and...

I need to lock in my process

I brewed a Scottish 60/- today that is now a Scottish 80/-. I had my efficiency set to 70% but I hit 80%. When I first went AG I was getting 60% and its progressively gone up ever since. Guess it can not get much higher so I'll set my base at 80% and try the scottish 60/- again.
