    bottling after cold crashing

I figure there is a thread out there already but I was unable to find what I was looking for. Question is this: this is my first time cold crashing. Since I'm used to bottling room temp beer I would typically bottle an ale w/ 5 oz of priming sugar to get my desired carb. since cold crashing...

Yesterday I quickly decided that I was going to brew another stout this weekend. So I went to the local homebrew shoppe which is more of a wine shoppe to get my lb of roasted and lb of chocolate. (note: this place is pretty much good for the quick fix....not a enough selection and pricey -...

    Aeration & Yeast cake

I was just wondering how critical aerating your wort is if pitching on to a yeast cake. From what I understand, the oxygen is for yeast growth....so could this step be taken out of the process when using a yeast cake? Curious

As I was making dinner last night, I had a realization that made me proud to a man. I was cooking some venison tenderloin from a doe that I harvested this weekend along with some veggies from the garden drinking a homebrew. I realized that not one item was store brought and that I had...

    DME vs Priming Sugar

Guys, I was just wondering a few things about the difference between DME and Priming Sugar. 1. lb by lb are the two the same for qty.? Does 4 oz of DME = 4 oz of Priming Sugar or is there a slight difference? 2. Due to DME being a little more complex, would the 3 wk rule still stand...

Guys, I'm having some custome made tap handels made since I have a neighbor who is into wood making. My question is, since I do not keg yet, what should the hole size be for the connection between the tap and handel? Some might ask why I am jumping the gun and getting custome handels...

Yeast Ranching From Your Own Bottles

I have read a few threads on people who collect yeast from bottles such as Bell's and so forth. I've also read about yeast washing after fermentation and pitching on top of a cake. I've got to thinking, has anyone tried collecting/ranching their yeast out of their own bottles and making a...

Can't believe my wife did this......

    My efficiency jumped!!

Question for you guys out there, it is probably one of those GOOD problems. I made an Ale (AG) with the assumption of poor efficency. My problem is that I got 80% efficency with this batch. My S.G. was @ 1.060 and F.G. @ 1.011 (6.4% Alc) Above the style guide lines. Reciepe...

Recipe in the making...is it solid?

I've been playing around with this recipe for a while now. I would like to get some insight from my fellow brewers on what they think. Just a heads up, I used EdWorts Haus Pale Ale as a backbone for this expeirment. Also, anyone have an idea on what style this would fall under? 9 lbs – 2...

    S04 vs Irish Ale Yeast

I am just curious if anyone would know how close these two yeasts are in characteristics or in differences for that matter. I see a lot of reciepes that call out for Irish Ale yeast and was wondering (to save money) if S04 would give me the same profile. I suspect that it would, but would...

    Lagering for 2 months....add yeast?
