Anyone try re-pitching Wyeast 9097 (Old Ale Blend)?

I used Wyeast 9097-PC Old Ale Blend to make the 11-11-11 HBT Anniversary Series beer, and afterwards, I rinsed it to get as clean a yeast pitch as I could using this method: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/yeast-washing-illustrated-41768/ I was wondering if anyone else has done this also? What can I do with 10# of black malt?

I was gifted some leftovers from a commercial brewer, and amongst them was about 10# of black malt. Most recipes I see that use it only use a very small amount, and I was wondering if anyone had any crazy recipes that use 1+ pounds of black malt for a 5 gallon batch? Thanks!

Using Nalgene Carboys for primary fermentation

A friend of a friend gifted me with 2x5.5Gal and 1x13Gal Nalgene carboys today, and I'm planning to use them as primary fermentation vessels. Has anyone else here tried using these before? Any issues I should be aware of? Obviously I'm going to clean them very carefully, as he had no idea...

(edited -- got confused between 75 can and 75 quart. i'm pretty sure it's 58qt, 75 can) Hi all, I found a 58qt coleman on sale for $30 tonight at Wal-Mart. It had the spigot on one end with a depression inside leading to the spigot hole. 1. Is this a decent style cooler to make a mash/lauter...

    Beer brewer going to cider

Hello everyone, I'm getting ready to harvest apples from my front yard, and I'd like to make the simplest, least chemically treated hard cider. Should I go the boil route to sanitize, or the no-boil route? I'm committed to yeast (I love those little guys), and don't want a really wine-y...

Possible stuck barley wine - suggestions?

Hi all, I have a barley wine that's stuck at 1.038 I racked it to a secondary well after the krausen had dropped (8 days), and I had pitched plenty of yeast (it blew off over a gallon in the first 36 hours of fermentation). Its been in the secondary for almost 3 weeks, and the gravity hasn't...

Milky white layer at top of yeast cake

I have a milky white, wavy layer at the top of my yeast cake. Is it still safe to pitch onto? It looks kinda gross, but I know that it may just be yeast. Anyone seen this before that can put my worries to rest? :( Thanks.
