    How do YOU pronounce "Saaz"?

Helles is not "male" it is das Helle not der Helle hence it can't end in ~er it gets ~es for the ending as in "the beer is a lager" = das Bier ist ein Helles. But your example is correct it does change to "Münchner Hellen" if you want to say "the history of Munich lager" you would say "Die...

How to store my malt - specific questions

I am using acidulated often - also CaraMunich, CaraPils, Honey, Bisquit and Abbey malt That is about it. Everything else I would get from my HBS in the quantity needed. I guess if I get those in 5 and 10 pound bags according to my experience of how often I use them I should be fine. I...

How to store my malt - specific questions

I gradually started harvesting yeast, buying hops in bulk after I figured out what I most likely use and what I like brewing. I bought everything according to recipe for years and if I was to add that up it would amount to a substantial number. However I am totally cool with that since I needed...

How to store my malt - specific questions

It is also saving trips to drive all the way to the store - and I usually buy grains for 2-6 brews hence I am storing grain any way but milled grains and I am occupying one person with my recipe list for at least 45 minutes in the store. Also the difference between recipe grains and bulk isn't...

Soaking cacao nibs in rum or other possibilities...

I soaked cocoa nibs in Bourbon for a stout. I did soak them for 3 weeks though and it turned out awesome. I was amazed how much chocolate aroma it had. Your rum idea should work perfectly fine (imo).

“Bier! Der Film” - German country style brewing, blew my mind

OMG! The funniest thing for me (being born and raised in Germany) they said they need it to be 90°F environmental temperature to "kill" the 5 liter "Master" Bottle but August in Northern Germany and it is roughly 60°F hence they fired up the stove to "drink" - lol It's a Märzen - they say in...

How to store my malt - specific questions

It feels like an ice box when I walk in in Winter and like a sauna in summer. If I have to guess I'd say winter around 40° and summer around 90+° and in comparison to my normally heated/cooled house it is quite a stark contrast. all of this is super helpful already! Thank you. I was planning...

How to store my malt - specific questions

I just realized (after almost 4 years! *hand to forehead) that had I bought a grain mill it would have paid for it self 4 times by now hence I am seriously contemplating getting a grain mill and buy my grains in 55 pound bags henceforth. I have specific questions though: I do not have a...

Pennsylvania PA/NJ Blichmann Burner for sale

Selling my Blichmann burner since I had to go electric. It's the model before they named it "Hellfire" - was $ 150.00 when I bought it - has a different layout of the holes. (see pictures) Used for exactly 11 brews. No boil over. Was stored inside but still lost the silver appearance (see...

    Cold Conditioning for Irish/Scottish Ale

Thanks a lot, Mille Grazie. makes sense what you Guys are saying. I did that for all my wit beers (ramping up the fermentation temperature) - I guess if I give it enough time after carbing in the fridge, it should turn out well.

    Cold Conditioning for Irish/Scottish Ale

I am wondering if there is anything that speaks against fermenting at 55°F for ~3 weeks Then cold crashing the primary to 35°F and leaving it alone for 4 more weeks? This is my first Irish and Scottish Ale brew attempt. I was planning on doing one Irish red Ale and also a Scottish light...

Any other moms or women who brew?

lol! Exactly. Also my brew day is my holy day in every word sense. I usually do not have an entire day off from work - I have to at least come in in the morning - so when I have a day off I can use for brewing it is my holiday and I am unwilling to have that spoiled. And brewing, like cooking...
