    Motivation...

I worked out of town as a temp for my old employer for about 2 months though I have been back home nearly that long. One of the first things I did after getting home was go to the homebrew store and by supplies for my next batch. It's been nearly a month and a half since I picked that stuff up...

    Number one beer in America.....

https://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/style/116/ I understand that this Julius by Tree House is an extremely popular beer but how can it be rated the number one beer in America when you can only purchase it in person at the brewery? It seems to me that only a very small segment of beer drinkers...

Question about the different SRM scales

In Brewers friend and I assume other brewing software, there are 4 different color scales. SRM Morey, SRM Daniels, SRM Mosher and EBC Morey. Can anybody tell me what the difference is and why we use these different scales.

    Question about bottling my stout

I brewed a stout on August 1st and pitched a starter of WLP090 on that day. The OG was 1.066 and the FG was to be around 1.014 or so. The fermentation stalled out at 1.030 after about a week and despite my efforts to getting restarted, it hasn't changed in about 3 weeks. I'd like to go ahead and...

First keg not a good experience....

So this morning I filled my first keg with my new IPA. I have a brand new slimline torpedo ball lock keg. I cleaned it and sanitized it, hooked it up to my co2 with sanitizer inside. It seemed to hold pressure. I sprayed sanitizer on all of the connections and saw nothing that looked like a...

    Help restarting stuck fermentation...

So I posted the other day about issues with attenuation. I have 2 beers in my chamber and they both seemed not to be attenuating properly. I raise the temp a few degrees and the IPA took off and is now nicely nearing its FG. The stout on the other hand is still sitting at 1.030 exactly where it...

    Tribute brew, BeerCamp Tropical IPA

I really liked this one off brew from Sierra Nevada and was sad to see it go away. So I thought Id try a recipe of my own starting with those ingredients listed at their site. This is not intended to be a clone and some of the ingredients are different, mostly because I could not source them all...

    Issues with attenuation

I have a couple of brews fermenting currently. One a stout that I pitched using a WLP090 1liter starter, on August 1st, 2 weeks ago today. I ferment in a temp controlled chest freezer and had started the fermentation at about 65 deg, and ramped is up slowly every couple days to 69deg. I was...

Clone some Hop Slice by Deschutes

I bought a case of Deschutes Hop Slice the other day at Costco and am really enjoying it. It is a session ale at 4.5%, with a summer lemon zing. Deschutes is very charitable in giving its ingredient list so I'll play around with those and see what numbers I can hit. Anybody else try this beer...

A place to store my kegs...

I haven't bought the kegs yet nor anything else towords the goal of kegging except this storage box. Got a pretty good deal on it so here's where I start. I'm shopping for a few 5 gallon cornies if anybody knows of a good deal. I tried looking at "Adventures in Hombrewing" but it seems that...

    Still bubbling but slowly....

I made 3 gallons of blackberry jam wine about 6 months ago. It is nice and clear now after several rackings and I am thinking of bottling soon. I tasted a sample today and it is a little tart but not bad and I kinda like it. But I would like to sweeten a bit or at least most of it. So yesterday...

Thinking of trying an extract brew...

The very first time I brewed beer was in one of those brew it stores. You go in, decide on a brew and they guide you thru the process using their extract of maybe some steeped grains. Then they ferment it for you and you come back later and bottle it. And the beer wasn't too bad though I do...

Paintball co2 tank & mini regulator

Anyone tried this Williams Brewing Mini Regulator? It seems designed to work with a paintball cartridge and I'm thinking of using it with the 20oz co2 bottle. It also has a check valve in the output to prevent beer from backing into the regulator. I'm trying to keep this system as small as...

A brew house opened in my town!!!

Woohoo!!! A very nicely stocked brew house just opened their doors in my town, in fact they are just a couple blocks away from my house. I am so stoked. I just drove 30 miles the day before yesterday so I could brew which I did yesterday and today while out and about, I saw their sign and...

    My Citra brew recipe

Here is my Citra brew recipe. I don't call it an IPA because I think it is somewhere between a pale and an IPA. Doesn't really matter anyway I suppose. Lets call it a Hoppy Pale. This will be the third time I brew it and I think it's just about right. This time I'm adding some wheat for head...

looking for good examples of British ales and IPA's

So instead of derailing a different thread I was reading I thought I'd ask here..... I enjoy quite a few typical west coast ales and IPA's. Of course Sierra Nevada Pale, and several of their IPA's, Deshutes has some of my favorites, Balast Point Sculpins!!!, Russian River, Port Townsend Brewery...

    Do I need an airlock?

I have a 7cf chest freezer that I use as a fermentation chamber. Currently I have a 6 gallon carboy of beer in there and a 3 gallon carboy of wine. If I move the wine to the top of the condenser hump I can fit another batch of beer in there but the wine won't fit with the airlock installed...

    Designing my next brew...

My very first brew a month or two ago was a Citra pale ale. It was very good but it only yielded about two gallons and it's long gone. I'd like to do it again but maybe try to improve it in a couple of areas. The hoppyness was just perfect, Magnum for bittering and Citra for flavor and dry...

Help me zero in on BIAB brewday issues....

Today I brewed my 5th batch of beer. It was a "Fresh Squeeze" clone from the Homebrewers Association website here, http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/deschutes-fresh-squeezed-ipa-clone/ I'm brewing in a 10 gallon kettle and this recipe seems to push that quite close. Now I...

I've had the flu for a couple days and today I finally feel a little better, so what better than a bowl of soup to help it along.
