Arduino build in progress, webpage based automation

Because they were free. Two jobs ago they were deconstructing a machine to salvage parts to be used for training or fun stuff at work. None of it could be used again on a customer machine. So, the thermocouples had already had a bung crimped on in the past and couldn't be re-used and the...

Arduino build in progress, webpage based automation

You can add "libraries" to the code for the Arduino of things like ethernet, html, etc... I have an ethernet shield for it. Here is the subpanel: there are two thermocouple drivers there, the Arduno Uno, a relay breakout board, and a screw terminal shield on top of it. All wire labeled...

Arduino build in progress, webpage based automation

I posted a reply in another thread, but wanted to start a placeholder once I take some pictures and get screenshots of the code and webpage. I have an Arduino Uno that I put on a subpanel with din rail and some wire ducting a while ago to mess around with wireless X10 home automation crap. I...

eBIAB using a raspberry pi project

I have an Arduino Uno that I put on a subpanel with din rail and some wire ducting a while ago. I put it inside an old desktop case and am using its power supply to run it. I have about 90% of the coding done for my automated batch system for BIAB. The route I took was writing a very...

    HMI design

Awesome job man! I'm a little jealous of your HMI. I want to do an automated setup someday. Some home improvements and other stuff ate it up the opportunity for a while. One day....lol.

    HMI design

The hold, repeat, abort steps would just be a single button each. The magic is in the code not the HMI. If the step is an integer skipping a step would maybe add X to the step number. If abort, make the step number zero. Pause would make the timer code false. I'm not sure of the code...

How a kolsch recipe turned out, right color?

I'll probably do this recipe again in a few months since I like it so much. I'll try that. Next recipe though will be something pumpkin for the fall. Should be done by then. I could always do two at once now that I've got two buckets and enough bottles/minikegs.

How a kolsch recipe turned out, right color?

That's the thing, it is an altbier recipe. When I bought the grains at the store I was reading the recipe but not the "bio" above it. I found the recipe when searching for a Kolsch recipe. Ended up after reading the recipe again, it is NOT a Kolsch recipe. It clearly said Altbier in the...

How a kolsch recipe turned out, right color?

I followed the below recipe as close as possible. I did BIAB using a paint strainer. Seemed to work wonderfully compared to some stories I've heard about issues with the method. I hit most of the temps below, however the major difference was that I did not heat/add to hit temps but instead...

Priming directly in bottles question (need to do it that way)

I saw something in here about re-using commercial bottles. I know some people have success with that but given what I've seen and heard vicariously through others, I'll never do it. The caps, bottles, and machine at the commercial brewery are made for each other. I suggest swing top...

    HMI design

Great start! I can only contribute what I know from doing this from a living. This might not be specific to your screen, but in general. 1. Standardized color schemes work. They prevent incidents and convey the right info when you need it. Grey is off, blue is on, red is an alarm...

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

It has to be a pattern and not a coincidence since I gave another 6-pack a try. My wife pretty much only drinks certain pilsners and Kolsch style stuff. But a place called Big Boss here makes a Kolsch style "Angry Angel". Every time I drank it I could swear they accidentally mixed a batch...

Can it even be done? Measuring Specific Gravity using Arduino or Raspberry Pi

Lol, I was racking my brain at my desk thinking of a cheap way to do it. I didn't know there was such a thing as a BeerBug or all these brewing gadgets. Strain gauges themselves are really cheap, scoring a used quality signal conditioner is the trick. Luckily, I used to work for an...

Can it even be done? Measuring Specific Gravity using Arduino or Raspberry Pi

Imagine this: have a denser mass or weight that will sit in the bottom. Then have a thin wire with a strain gauge on it connected to a bladder or sphere full a lesser SG liquid that final SG, such as straight alcohol. The sphere would not float on top, but still be fully submerged. As the...

    Beginner from central NC

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Grew up in Sanford, live in NW Raleigh. I'm a 1/2 mile from Gizmo, 1.5 from Lonerider, and 1.5 from Lynwood Brewing Concern. I mis-spoke, still learning, but I don't have a keezer. I rigged up a minifridge to a temp controller so I can lager or...

    Connectors for PT100s?

Omega makes a lot of thermocouple and RTD connectors and parts: http://www.omega.com/section/thermocouple-connectors-panel-system.html?gclid=CMPjo6DdgMcCFSTncgodJAgOiA Probably already knew this but you have to match the materials of the cable conductors to the connectors/plugs etc...

    Beginner from central NC

I'm from central NC and live within a mile of three local breweries and within 20 minutes of about a dozen. I got into this being an engineer that likes to garden and tinker. I can program and do electrical design. I can weld, a little bit, more like hot glue gun with a mig. My favorites...
