    New electric brew kettle

Interesting. How are you controlling the temps / power to the element? And to be safe, I hope you have a GCFI outlet.

    Use for left over hops

Sounds like a simi-smash (Single malt and single hop addition) recipe in the works, but with two hops clearly. Would use one for bitter and the other for aroma / dry hop pending the AA and the flavor you like.

    Is this IPA too dark?

I was wondering if it might have been a kit. Was it extract by chance or was it all grain? Extract is by default a little darker and the longer it sits, the darker it gets. Either way, you got beer coming. Sound like it will be good! Cheers!

    Is this IPA too dark?

Maybe I missed these quickly skimming through the thread. But if you think it's too dark... it's to dark. What was your objective? Were you wanting a lighter color beer? If so, then yes it's too dark. If you were just brewing to see what would happen then you learned. Which is great...

    Stuck Mash

Seems like your wort is turning into beer so thats good. I'd agree with the rest, leave it be now that you know its doing its thing. In regards to the mash and moving it. In the past, I have had to move my full tun around for whatever reason (ground to table and back again.). When I have done...

Dealing with Angry Wife when Upgrading Brewing Equipment: A How-To Thread

Respectfully, She is correct. In your own words.... And she is scared. (Girls and finances are interwoven) And you're broke but you keep borrowing someone else's money. You'll never get ahead that way. I know. I've been there. I've done dumb with a capital "D". Sounds like you make a great...

    Oatmeal Coconut Brown Ale Recipe

I personal have had success with powdered cinnamon and natural/organic vanilla extract (the pure stuff) at about 5 minutes before the end of the boil. Could do 2-3 vanilla beans split down the middle at the end of the boil too. Would add said beans to the fermenter as well. Some folks do the...

    Oatmeal Coconut Brown Ale Recipe

Not 100% sure how the toasted coconut would do because I have not used it. I have used coconut flavor from Brewers Best and have been pleased with it. I add when I keg. I suggest that route adding post fermentation and a (very) little at a time until you get just the right taste you’re going...

    Citra and "catty" character

Clawhammer Supply just did a Catty Lager. They used Nelson Sauvin hops if (excuse me for lack of better terms)...cat piss is the flavor profile you like. ...These hops come from New Zealand and are known for their fruit punch and catty aromas. At the top of our 60 minute boil they added 0.2...

    Brew Shed Advice

Congrats on the new soon to be brewing space. It depends on how much brewing you plan to do. Think future wise too. I'd strongly consider some sort of drain or plumbing. Spills, water, wort, etc. are going to happen. Water source for brewing and or chilling you need to take into consideration...

    Clawhammer, Grainfather, or Robobrew?

I have the Clawhammer 240V setup. I LOVE it. They have the smaller volt unit for the typical outlet but I researched how much it would cost to put a 240V in my garage and it was $300. I purchased the cord, GCFI outlet, and breaker for the box. The biggest expense for this is the cord really and...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Sounds like it went reasonably well. Don't stress too much about the lower FG reading. Sounds like the yeast did their job and had plenty of O2 to work with. Might taste a touch dryer than one that finished with higher FG and has a little more alcohol in it. Cheers!

    How Long to Reach Boil

Just getting my new electrical system up and running this month so I'm not sure this will be much help. I grossly went from 150° to boil 214° (at my elevation), and it took about 15-20 minutes each time. I think I would hit my boil a little faster but I kept my controller on a preset to assess...

    Infected bucket for starsan storage

Why chance all your time and effort on it? I would suggest buy another bucket. Lowes etc has food grade buckets with lids. You can do what you want of course but I would hate for something get infected after a brew day and then waiting 2-6 wks and come to the realization you should have spent...

    Picnic tap foam issues

Concur with the proper beer line length/size. ALSO would check the ball lock part of the keg/o-ring. Mine had the same symptoms with foam and killing the carbonation by the time it got to the glass and settled. Had to fix the ring and popet. I’ve had a regulator go bad and would amp up the...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

Nottingham (57*-70*) would be my choice in your given scenario. Would do rehydration or a starter. Happy Brewing!
