Possibly Overcarbed sparkling wine?? Help needed.

Hey tdavisii and yooperbrew, thanks for stopping in. I did agitate and "roll" the keg for a few minutes after turning on the gas, and allowed it to sit for a week w/the gas on, fwiw. I beleive my lines are 3-4ft, and my tstat is set on 45. Should I get longer dispensing lines? I just...

Possibly Overcarbed sparkling wine?? Help needed.

Hey all I hope you are all doing well. I recently got a cornelius setup, and decided that I would carb some sparkling wine first. I did some reading, and since I didn't have a fridge at that point I set the co2to 4 volumes. I have since got a t-stat controlled freezer set at 45, and...

    Beer fridge/freezer...How Cold?

Hey Arneba28, and thanks for the reply. So either route I go I will need a controller. If I can get a fridge for cheap I will probably go that route. My primary concern was if the required temp was below the fridge temp, but it sounds like it s above from what you say. Thanks B

    Beer fridge/freezer...How Cold?

Hey all, Just got a 20 cu ft deep freeze off craigslist, and will pick up a temp controller and another corny keg tomorrow. I am still very new at this so my question is what is the lowest temp that you would lager or serve a beer at? I can get a fridge for next to nothing, and my...

    Newbie Kegging Question..

So, if I am going to carb at RT I would need to use 20lb(for ex) pressure co2 to carb. Would I take it off of the co2 when I chill it? Would I drop the pressure before or after it is chilled. Since I don't have a fridge for this project right now, I plan on force carbing at rt, and then...

    Newbie Kegging Question..

Hey all HBTers, I hope you are all doing well today. I recently was at my local hbsupply and picked up a corny keg, regulator, picnic tap and the lines to run to the co2 tank, and a beer gun for bottling. I know there is a pretty easy way to build one, but I am very busy w/my last yr of...

    Possibly over primed?

Hey all, just finished bottling my first batch of apfelwein. I bottled 14 wine bottles, and thought I had about 2g left, so I primed with 2 oz by weight of corn sugar. After mixing and putting into the beer bottles, I only got about 15.5 bottles of beer, not the 20 I expected. So, I should...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hey all, I hope you are all doing well out there in brew land. My first batch of apfelwein has finished bubbling rapidly and I find myself at the 28 day mark, and I have a few questions before I go into the bottles. I plan on priming some into beer bottles and also bottling some into wine...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Hey all, what a long thread. I read the first 5 pages and decided I'd finish the rest later. I got a batch brewing using walmart 100% pure. For some reason I started it in my primary bucket instead of the secondary carboy like Ed said. Now I want to make a batch, and I need my primary, so I...

Air in carboy, can I use co2 to purge, or should I put in smaller carboys??

Its not bottled water, its reverse osmosis filtered water, 0ppm. I used non-boiled to top up some beer but I know thats a different ball game. When I made the wine originally I topped up the concentrate with non-boiled RO water, so I figure it can't hurt since it has been done already. B

Air in carboy, can I use co2 to purge, or should I put in smaller carboys??

Thanks yooperbrew, yes, I degassed a couple days ago. I just checked the instructions, and somehow I missed the step that says top up w/cool water within 5cm of the bung. Thanks yooper, I apprecaite it. I'm just going to use fresh RO water to top up with. Should it be boiled and cooled...

Air in carboy, can I use co2 to purge, or should I put in smaller carboys??

Thanks Bigkahuna, I appreciate the concise response, lol. If anyone thinks I shouldn't I would love to hear any reasons against it if you have some. B

Air in carboy, can I use co2 to purge, or should I put in smaller carboys??

Hey all, the title on this thread is pretty much self explanitory, but I will go in to a little more detail. I am making my first wine. It is from a vinters reserve riesling kit. After racking into secondary, and appropriate waiting period verified by gravity readings, I racked off the...

    top-up carboy before bottling?

Thanks for the input CD, I appreciate it. I went ahead and bottled everything last night, primed w/corn sugar, and did not top up. I got ~42 bottles, so no worries. I also racked it before bottleing and allowed time for any additional sediment to fall out of solution. Now I just need...
