Not quite getting to an aggressive boil -

g'day brewers! I am using converted 50L kegs as my brewing kettles and hot tun, like so many of us do. I recently switched to a Bayou Classic Square Patio Stove. I really like the stability it offers, compared to using my keg/kettle on my Bass Pro Turkey fryer. However, since making this switch...

    My Weekend Keggle Build

Nice job, what type of grinding wheels did you use? I'm just about to create a new keggle and the wheel I have seems a bit thick (1/4")?

    Poisoned batches?

I may be panicking for no reason! I'm just used to seeing much more and continuous activity from S04 than this. This is the 3rd trying this recipe - so it's probably me being hypercritical of this batch and not trusting the results... I'll report back later. ~Sgt

    Poisoned batches?

1.044, which was lighter than anticipated (1.051). I do not remember the 1st batch... This one was 1.048...

    Poisoned batches?

Sorry - I wrote this while in a meeting - so while I gave a decent amount of detail - I was moderately distracted and I wasn't really to the point. ISSUE - There is a total lack of activity with this batch as there was with the other 2. And typically when using S-04 - there's activity for...

    Poisoned batches?

Alright brewers? Hope all is well! I have a weird one. I have brewed about 20-30 batches over the last 2 years - maybe that's a lot, maybe it's rookie status for some. But for some reason I seem to keep having a very odd situation happen whenever I've attempt to brew a Scottish 80/-. The...

    A little help?

Thanks for the input! I did a cross reference between sucralose vs Stevia (because that's what I already have for my ginger ales) and this article says the following. Stevia is 100 times sweeter than table sugar and sucralose is 600 times sweeter than table sugar - so it would mathematically...

    A little help?

Good morning brewers - I posted this on the Recipe thread - but didn't seem to get any traction... so... I have a relatively simple question, I believe. I brewed a base ale (Nov 12th), matching the characteristics of Northern Brewer's Bastard Stepson - using my superb math skills, I devised a...

Brewed Rootbeer base, got a bottle of extract, now what?

Good morning brewers - I have a relatively simple question, I believe. I brewed a base ale (Nov 12th), matching the characteristics of Northern Brewer's Bastard Stepson - using my superb math skills, I devised a 4 gallon batch to use this extract - I'm almost ready to bottle, however the...

    Northern Brewer Replacement

Well this has been an interesting read... seems the tangent has gotten away from the OP's question despite numerous attempts to have everyone grab their respective soapboxes and move to another thread. Only thing that came out of this for me; buy where you want; boycott what you want, brew and...

Converting Amber and Dark DME to All-grain

https://byo.com/bock/item/616-extract-to-all-grain-and-back Just another addition to this old post - while the math remains for pale DME/LME to pale AG, here's a basic formula for Ambers, & Dark... Almost all extracts start with a healthy dose of base malt, usually a two-row pilsner-type malt...

    Suggestions for a stuck ferment...

This is what I was thinking... a lot of information given about the pitching temps but nothing about what type of match this was. I had a similar experience with a Scotch Ale. I was hitting all my numbers but my mash temp was too high. So even though I was getting a SG 1.042 on my mash...

    Getting frustrated...

Just an update... that batch is percolating away - yeasties are happy, flying about the carboy... decent krausen (for S-05). I can smell the Mosaic hops coming up and through the airlock... smells lovely! Later this week I'll dry hop another ounce of Mosaic.
