60qt. Ice Cube Mash Tun Build - $cheap and simple

People don't used galvanized metal in your mashtun. Do not use brass fittings in your mashtun. If you like introducing lead into your beer then go ahead and do it. I watched one of the videos and the girl was using galvanized wire in the SS braid. For what it's worth get some 14 gauge house...

    Krome faucets

Has anyone else noticed that the seal in the faucet that connects to the shank stinks of plastic bad? I had to remove the faucet because it was leaching into the beer in the line. I could taste it.

    bought the wrong refractometer

This seems to work. Calibrate it to 0 with distilled water. Then take your reading. if it comes up at 1.068 subtract 20 and the true reading is 1.048. I've done this on a few different reading side by side with my hydrometer and its seems to be dead on.

    bought the wrong refractometer

I just bought another one Ill try to sell the salinty one That the difference between 1.033 and 1.038 is like 30 brix it seems it would be very hard to get an accurate reading

    bought the wrong refractometer

Resetting to zero sends the readings totally out of wack because sugar and salt have different consistancys

    bought the wrong refractometer

The scale is wrong so using water doesn't help. You have to calibrate it to scale. From what I seen its showing 1.052 on my hydrometer and 1.057 on my refractometer

    bought the wrong refractometer

I bought a salinity refractometer thinking that it was the same thing as a brix refractometer. Just wondering if it will work for beer? I took my hydrometer and did a reading of apple juice then put the apple juice in the refractometer and adjusted it to what my hydrometer said. This...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I just kegged this brew maybe 2 and a half weeks ago and its great. It's best to let this carb up properly and sit for atleast 2 weeks to get the best taste possible. If under carbed just like any beer the hops come out a lot more bitter. By letting the beer properly carb up and age for 2...

rubbermaid mash tun? what is better?

On a cooler Id say go with the braid its a lot easier solution and cheaper to boot. braids are not quite as good on a big keggle system. I had some issues with stuck sparges on large grain bills. I had to go to a manifold with the slits pointed downward have never had an issue since.
