    Brewing out of Maryland

    Welcome from far-away Rockville.

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

It might also be worth mentioning, that instead of going through all that anguish, grab your trusty racking can and siphon in to your keg through the lid... assuming you still have the cane and tubing. I realized I lost all common sense on a hoppy stuck transfer to a keg once, then realized...

I know it needs more time, but...

I would give it another week and check gravity again. Patience is too often key.

    What's up with homebrewers?

Well, since I also live in the DC area, I hope it wasn't me, haha. Always welcome to grab a beer though, then maybe they'll be one cool person from the area... and HBT.

Best type of filter for a DIY mash tun?

I used a stainless braided faucet hose. I cut off the ends, pulled out the flexible tubing in the middle, folded and clamped one end shut and clamped the other end to the inside of my ball valve. I used this with a 70qt Coleman Xtreme cooler. Worked great for me. Wort looked clear and I was...

Using beergun on Bouboun County Stout 10.5%

When you kept it in the keezer, was it connected to CO2 the entire time? if it was, and the gas was turned on to that keg (assuming you have a manifold) which I'm assuming it was since you got beer through your beer gun, and it sat at the right pressure the whole time... my guess would be bad...

Getting a good seal... Washers & Gaskets

In my set up, i have a gasket on both sides, right against the cooler wall. I would think that with a washer against the wall, your water/wort could get behind the washer and leak. Of course, that would mean that the hole through the wall would need to not be too large for a gasket to...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Mashing a white wheat hefe right now. Brewing an IPA Monday or Tuesday. Need a better pipeline.

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

I've made this a couple times and have had a great thick, rich mouthfeel without being overwhelmed by the burnt roast flavors. I also haven't gotten to water adjustment or anything. One thing I've heard of people doing is adding the dark, roasted grains at the end of the mash. Maybe like...

Buying bulk LME with my own container

You may be right... where I typically shop the cost difference is about $1, but you use less DME than LME, so maybe the cost just balances out in the end.

Buying bulk LME with my own container

You could also consider DME as it is usually cheaper. I keep mine in an air-tight glass jar, the kind with the rubber gasket and latch on the side to hold the top down (something like this...

Maryland FREE to a good home - Clean Bottles

I have about 5 cases of clean bottles that I'd like to offer before I recycle them all. I have collected these over the last couple years, but now keg most of the time, so I have way more than I need. If you're in or near the Rockville, MD area, and need to build up your bottle supply...

    7-Tap Black Iron Pipe Kegerator

Cool, thanks. Did you go to the Grainger on Dover? And do you if the machinist would be willing to do some more? I'm right in Rockville so being able to maybe get this all done locally would be awesome.

    7-Tap Black Iron Pipe Kegerator

I love the black pipe. I've been wanting to build out my keezer for a while and that's what I want to use. Where did you get the pipe, what size is it and where did you get it machined? Your build looks sweet too.

Imperial Stout Russian Imperial Stout (2011 HBT Competition Category Winner)

I have brewed a couple of RISs so far. I bottled one as normal and let it sit in my basement, I have one bottle left and it was brewed Feb. 2015. I have not had any oxidation problems. And I suspect you wouldn't either if your bottling procedure is solid. I'm currently bulk aging a batch in...
