    Northern Brewer Grapefruit Sculpin clone

I brewed it 2 summers ago and it was a hit. Last summer I finally got to try the original version which was terrific, but I prefer the homebrew version, I pitched the dried grapefruit peel right out of the package, no vodka presoak. The grapefruit was there and complimented the hops. Next time I...

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

Thanks, I never knew about the paraffin part. It took some wiggling and muscle to get the bottles out of the capper. It was somewhat concerning because it's never been a problem before.

    Bottling Tips for the Homebrewer

I am wondering about Crown brand bottle caps, are there different sizes? I just bottled 5 gallons and used some red caps from the lhbs. Bottles were 20 22 ounce bombers and 14 12 ounce. In almost every case the finished product stuck in the capper and had to be muscled free. I've never had this...

    Dry Hopping a Saison

Tasted what was in the gravity test tube and it was nice, had a nice fruity taste with a good amount of bitterness from the initial hops which consisted of goldings and saaz. I did add some corriander and sweet orange peel to the last part of the boil. The orange peel came through, but very...

    Dry Hopping a Saison

5 gallons of Saison just went into secondary after 4 weeks in primary. Even a week ago it was still bubbling away in primary. It's called the kitchen sink Saison because it began as a Petite Saison D'Ete kit from Northern. However, there was a pound of Amber DME that's been laying around for...

    American IPA Fresh Squeezed IPA

This sounds really good. However, I'm not brewing all grain yet and would be using extract for the base malt. So in that case is a 90 minute boil still necessary? If not what about the hop schedule? Would adding the 90 minute hops to the 60 minute hops make any difference? Thanks for posting...

    Sorachi Ace in A Saison?

I'm using the Danstar Belle Saison the kit came with. I'm told that this is a great Saison yeast strain. Should i include Sorachi Ace with the other hops in the schedule or eliminate one of them and sub the Sorachi?

Infusing Vodka or Gin With Hops?

This is an old thread, I know. However, I've been intrigued with fir infused gin so tonight I picked some fresh Doug Fir and Hemlock tips and put them in a quart mason jar with about a 1/3 of an ounce of Cascade leaf hops. We'll see how it ends up. :)

    Ballast Point Sculpin IPA clone?

I know this is an old thread, but here's the extract recipe I got: Specialty grains - 0.5 lbs Dingemans Cara 20 - 0.25 lbs Briess Caramel 20 Fermentables - 6 lbs Gold malt syrup (60 minutes) - 3.15 lbs Gold malt syrup (20 min late addition) Hops - 0.5 oz Chinook (60 min) - 0.5 oz Cascade (20...

    Coniferous Tree Sprouts In Beer

We have a bunch of conifers on our property and they're a;; sprouting wonderful new growth. I was wondering about using the tips for brewing an IPA. Has anyone tried it? If so how much? In the boil, or "dry hopped"? I just did a fresh squeezed IPA clone that I think would do well with some Doug...

    How do I repitch bottles?

How'd you do the repitching? Did you rehydrate? And how much per bottle?

    No Carbonation

That's what I'm thinking, the yeast may be dead. I'll wait some more. Thinking ahead though, in case it's still no hint of carbonation after the additional time, I've read that uncapping and adding wine yeast could solve the problem, but how much do I add and do i rehydrate it first?

    No Carbonation

I bottled a high gravity IPA 2 weeks ago. Just tried one and there is absolutely no carbonation The final gravity showed it to be about 9.5% ABV. I put it in secondary after 2 weeks, it didn't show any activity. I bottled it after 3 weeks in secondary using 3/4 cup of corn sugar. I've read...

    How do I repitch bottles?

I have the same problem, my IPA did not carb. I racked it into secondary after 2 weeks. There was no activity in secondary and i bottled it after 3 weeks in secondary. The beer was pretty clear by then. The final gravity at bottling showed it was about 9.5% ABV. I've read that decapping and...

    The beer won't carbonate

Did you find your solution? I know it's an old post, but I just bottled a 9.45% ABV IPA and am keeping my fingers crossed. I had it in secondary for 3 weeks and there was absolutely no activity.
