    Better Bottle Heating

I had thought about something like you posted, Flyguy. I probably saw your setup before, or one alot like it. It is slick. However, I have an old fridge that I wanted to use for a duel warm/cold chamber depending on whether I was brewing a lager or ale, so I got a heater and a Ranco...

    Better Bottle Heating

Has anyone used a Better Bottle on a heat panel. I'm am talking about one of these: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/home-brew-heat-panel.html. I just used one with a brand new Better Bottle hooked up to a thermostat set to 68 degrees. I developed a divet on the inside of the bottle and a...

Can I put Boiling H2O in an Igloo Cooler

Very hot water may damage more than just the plastic lining. The first time I used my Rubbermaid 10 gallon, the plastic warped badly, but worked fine for awhile longer. However, about six months after that, I dropped in some 190 degree water to preheat and heard a loud crack. The plastic was...

What's the gap in your barley crusher? Just got my mill

You probably will get a point or two. I know I did. I don't think that the uneven settings are a problem, though. I know JSP makes a mill that only adjusts on one side.

    mash now.. boil later..

To avoid infection, I simply raise the temp of the wort to over 175 for 10-15 minutes to kill anything nasty.

What's the gap in your barley crusher? Just got my mill

I have mine at .035. Factory setting was .039 at one end and about .035 at the other.

    Midcountry Question

Yes. That's the one. I could just have it delivered for a mere $10 as usual, but I figured if I was off, why not? I could pick up two without paying the excessive extra shipping. I guess I should just play it safe and order for delivery, though.

    Midcountry Question

I am going to be around Midcountry soon and I had a couple of questions about buying there. Can you just walk in and buy a sack or two, or must you call ahead? If you can walk in, is it very dusty? I will have an infant with me so I just wanted to check.

    Vorlauf Problems

That makes sense. Perhaps I'll try pouring over a plate just to see what happens.

    Vorlauf Problems

I realize that this post is similar to another recent post, but I was wondering, do a few small bits per pint after vorlauf matter? I care mostly about astringency.

    Keg Bomb

I think this is extreme anxiety talking, but I have a question about maximum keg pressure. I brewed my first extract batch in a long while. It is a brown ale that started at 1.051 or so and I used US-04. I had it in a primary for 13 days then moved it to a secondary for seven days (I needed...

    LHBS Pet Peeves

So what is wrong with Two Brothers? I like the beer, but have never gone to the Brewer's Coop. B&G is my local, and it isn't great. However, they will sell a sack of 2-row for $40. That's cheaper than getting it shipped across town from Mid-Country. Just don't go to B&G with any questions...

    Evanston IL Water Analysis

It looks alot like mine. The only difference is that you will have a more malty flavor because you have a chloride to sulfate ration above 1. Mine is about .5 Your water is fine.

    Wyeast Bohemian Lager troubleshooting

10C is perfect. I also doubt you shocked the yeast to death. Perhaps you way under-pitched. Did you make a starter? It's a must for lagers and could cause a long lag. I wouldn't jack the temp up yet.

    Freezer hissing and popping

This may not be the smartest question, but I now have my first chest freezer and the thing makes odd noises. When running it makes an odd hissing/buzzing along the walls. When starting up or stopping it also makes other noises that I might describe as popping. I assume this is due to the...

Honestly I am so f*&#ing pissed about my beer right now

We need a bit more, I think. What is wrong with the flavor? What's the recipe? What was the og?

Purchasing Bulk Grains for Multiple Recipes

No one has ever complained about Great Western as far as I know. Regardless, if you are buying a sack and live in upstate NY, look at North Country. It's cheaper and close to you.

    Barley Crusher and Wheat question

I mill wheat at my standard gap of .036 with no problems and just fine efficiency. Keep in mind also that your "factory setting" may or may not be .039 as people assume. I checked mine when I got it and even with the arrows in the 'up' position, one side was at .039 and the other was at .036.

    Do all autosiphons "suck"?

I have two of them. I always store seperatly and assemble wet. They work flawlessly, even with some abuse.

    Corn Syrup Vs Rice

Just so you know, corn syrup is basically just glucose. You won't get any corn flavor. As for what the pros and cons are, it would depend on what you are trying to achieve. What's your goal?
