A new and overly complicated way to check corny kegs for leaks

Hey folks, I propose a newer and completely uncomplicated way to test a full keg for leaks. Thanks to OP @Horseflesh for the idea of creating a lake. And thanks to @day_trippr for suggesting the use of tape. Together they led me to use plastic wrap and mailing tape (nearly free, since I had...

    Philly Sour Raspberry Sour

I just made a similar beer as part of a group brew day, 10 people, 50 gallons, at a brewpub and supply store. I bought the Philly Sour yeast pack at the store, took it home with my wort and discovered as I was pitching it that the yeast expired in August 2022! Having little choice I pitched it...

Brown Spots in White Labs Yeast

Has anyone else found brown spots in their White Labs yeast lately? I found them a couple months ago and again today, this time in WLP001 California Ale, best by date of DEC 24, 2022. I'm not sure what to make of this. No, they aren't bubbles.

    a beer with ginger

I'm passing along this recipe link I just received in an email from Brew Your Own magazine (I subscribe). This is Gordon Strong (beer guru extraordinaire)'s clone recipe of Carillon Brewing Co.’s Ginger Pale Ale: Carillon Brewing Co.’s Ginger Pale Ale clone - Brew Your Own This recipe calls...

    Kettle Sour

The photo is a joke, but not the use of the hot tub. With under 6 gal. in a 10 gal. kettle it was quite stable. The hot tub cover pushed it down slightly but the kettle lid was nowhere near the waterline. And the lid was taped on. There was some kind of reaction between the pool chemicals...

    Kettle Sour

What's the most cost effective way to move my brewing inside?

I'm not sure if moving into a new place was the easiest way but you you did what I was going to suggest. You got a better stove. I do a modified version of BIAB on my stove. I have a 10-gallon kettle that I position over three burners when I need to raise the temp. The large burner alone...

How do you "double" a beer recipe (and I don't mean the quantity)?

How do you create a "double" beer recipe from the recipe of a "single"? That is, how do I take a recipe for a beer such as a Bell’s Best Brown Ale clone and turn it into a Double Brown. Bell’s had a Double Brown Ale recently at their café (maybe they still do) and it is wonderful. I would...

    Leak in keezer....not beer

I just found the same substance at the bottom of my keezer. I have only been kegging for a few months. I think it starts as condensation but how does it thicken? My keezer seems to be working fine otherwise. Since you posted almost three years ago have you learned any more about it?
