Recipe Scaling - Fort George Sunrise OPA Recipe Inside

One of my favorites too. Have you already tried out the recipe? I reached out to them too about the hop schedule. They didn't break it down by type but they guy told me that if he was brewing 5 gallons he would try 1 ounce first addition. 1 ounce second addition. 3.5 ounces final addition...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Have a question about strike temperature for mashing in a cooler. I've been heating my water to about 168 before dumping it into the grain, and the temperature always seems to drop about 20 degrees by the time I've mixed it. I've been heating the cooler first by letting some hot water sit in it...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Same size but different shape. My cooler is a little taller and narrower. I've been using 2 gallon buckets as fermenters because the LHBS I went to happened to have a small stack of them available. Haven't seen that size at the other stores I've been to unless they have them in the back room.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Probably a good idea. Everything I've done in my first few batches has worked out ok, but I'd definitely like to start being more consistent with temp. and water volume. My decision to start with small batch brewing was initially based on equipment costs, but I've really been enjoying it so...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I've been meaning to do this, but haven't yet. You're right that this would be a good idea. The pot is only a 12 quart and just a little less wide than it is tall. Good to know this isn't an abnormal amount of boil off. I guess it makes sense that the boil off on a smaller batch would be a...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I'm pretty new to brewing and have been doing small batches (1.5-1.75 gal) every week for a few weeks now. I have a question about boil off. Is it normal to get a higher percentage of boil off when doing small batches? I've been losing almost a full gallon which is around a 30% boil off...

    Fort George Cavatica Stout Clone?

This is my favorite stout right now, and I'm wondering if anyone has come across or created a clone recipe for it. Their website lists the ingredients, but I'm still new to brewing and have no idea how to figure out proportions. INGREDIENTS Organic 2 Row Malted Barley Munich Malt...

Saison too dry. Not good flavor.

Ok. I forgot to add that I opened it today primarily to throw the dry hops in, so I'm hoping that will add a little complexity to the flavor and aroma. I'll relax and see how it goes.

Saison too dry. Not good flavor.

White Labs Saison II. Tried to keep the temp consistent but it fluctuated in the mid-low 70s. And yeah, I've read saisons are meant to be dry. I'm just surprised at how much better it tasted a few days ago.

Saison too dry. Not good flavor.

This was my 2nd batch of beer and my first solo attempt. I did a small batch (1.75 gal) of a basic all-grain saison. The O.G. was 1.064, which was a higher gravity than the recipe said. The recipe called for 1/2 a vial of yeast, but I accidentally dumped in the whole thing. I opened up my...
