    New Kettle Time

I was in the same boat as you. I decided to get a 15g from spike and it is great! It's not overkill for a 5 gallon batch and while I haven't done it yet, it will be able to handle a double batch (10g)

    Chilling wort

Yeah, it is a little pricey. I may go with a plate chiller setup from Bobby

    Whirlpool setups...

I am wondering if a port like that would interfere with a bag during BIAB?

    Whirlpool setups...

Thanks guys, that's what I am looking for. I was wondering if anyone noticed any "off" flavors if they collected the trub in the fermentor vs leaving it in the kettle. My ground water is cold enough that I can chill in one pass to the fermentor. I am not gutsy enough to try no chill yet. For...

    Whirlpool setups...

Let's see them! I am considering whirl pooling before I chill my wort. Do any of you guys do this? Would love to hear whether you do or don't and the reasoning since I am learning. I thought about installing a recirc port at the level of my valve and using a false bottom so the bag doesn't...

    Chilling wort

I emailed jaded about what they recommend. Since I have a 15g kettle that I do mainly 5g brews in, I would have to go with their king cobra. But their cleanable CFC's looks good too. I have a pump and intend on recirculating. I also BIAB so most of everything stays in it, not much to clog up...

    Chilling wort

Good to know. Thanks. Cleaning is another issue I suppose. I was looking at plate chillers but they seem like a PITA to clean. And the thing I don't particularly like about CFC's is that I can't visually inspect them.

    Chilling wort

The only thing in my kettle is a downspout(pickup tube) for my valve. I BIAB so there isn't much inside. I live in Charles county, Marbury to be exact. I am also a import but from about 14 years ago. I haven't started making beer out of recipes yet, I use Annapolis home brew all grain kits...

    Chilling wort

I was looking to buy the hydra. Not sure I want to risk the no chill yet, maybe one day. I don't have any water supply concerns and being on a deep well my water temps don't change too much. It's upper 50s right now. I am also going to using the coolant water for my garden, stored in blue...

    Chilling wort

Thanks guys. I will have to research no chill

    Chilling wort

So I am fairly new to homebrewing. I have been reading that the best way to chill wort is to chill it all as quickly as possible to pitching temps. Currently I am looking to buy a chiller and am trying to do research on the various types. From what i gather chilling as fast as possible is...

What single change most improved your beer?

As I only have one extract with specialty grains batch under my belt, I am glad that this forum is here and I hope to learn a lot from you all. I am gathering my equipment now and will be tackling a fermentation chamber soon since I have a unused fridge/freezer in my basement.
