    Video Games

Yeah I started about 3 years ago, quit for about 2 then just recently started again. Your right about being behind though. I still felt like I was back at square one, and just when I think I'm catching up I learn there is so much more I haven't even glimpsed yet. It still amazes me how much...

    Too much water. Advice please.

Well I woke up this morning, went to check on it and its bubbling away already. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

    Too much water. Advice please.

Thanks for the info. I'll just let it ride. I also enjoy beer for the flavor and less for the alcohol part. Yes it is a perk, but if that's my goal for the evening I'll usually bring out the whisky. Maybe with it being a little on the lighter side my wife will enjoy it. She just recently started...

    Ice wort chilling

I have that planning problem too. The only reason I had time to freeze the water was because when I went to start brewing I noticed I was out of star San. So I figured what the hell. Next time I'm going to make ice cubes out of the spring water I use and just dump them into my next partial boil...

    Too much water. Advice please.

Today I let complacency get the best of me. After doing an LME brew, partial boil. Cooled it down, dumped it into carboy and added remaining water, but I wasn't paying attention to my jugs. Ended up with a little over 5.5 gallons before I realized it. (5 gal was the target) Recipe calls for...

    Ice wort chilling

Brewed an amber ale (LME based recipe) today, and I don't have a wort chiller. I usually dunk the kettle into the sink filled with ice water and stir. Takes quite a while. This time I filled 2 gallon ziplock bags with water about half way, purged out the air and froze them before hand. After...

American Lager Crop Chopper Premium American Lager

If you lager until clear, then bottle, must you pitch yeast again? Or will there be enough residual yeast left over to work with the priming sugar?

Hi from VA, soon to be CA

Hey, haven't been online in a while, been busy with the move and what not. Had no idea how much stuff I had stashed around my house. Lol. I'm moving between the Stockton and Antioch area. I have a grandmother that lives in Roseville.

    Can O2 really Expire

Although it might take a nuclear event to bump oxygen up a notch to form fluorine, how ever it only takes a little moisture and oxygen to convert Fe (iron) into Fe2O3 (rust). Oxidation and natural chemical reactions and corrosion are the most typical reasons for stamping expiration dates on things.

    First Brew this weekend

Something I would do with my kettle to help it boil is, I'd wrap the sides with a kitchen towel to help insulate it a bit. Cut my time to boil down by a good 20%

    First BIAB brew

Unsure about the first question but for the second one, you can fill your sink with the old ice water bath, but get some hose and a small water pump and just recirculate the water through the immersion cooler and back into the ice bath.

    fermentation temp

From what I've learned so far it usually depends on the type of yeast you use. The manufacture should say what temps work best for which ever strain you bought. If you can't find the manufacture info search on here for a similar recipe using the same yeast type and copy that.

    newbi chill haze

Have you or anyone else ever done any chill filtering? Chill it to make those proteins (I think their proteins) fog up then run it through a filter before bottling or kegging. Would this have any adverse effect on final taste? This was mentioned briefly in a home brewing book I read but did not...

    Can O2 really Expire

I'm a firefighter at a Naval Airfield, and our refillable O2 tanks for our EMT gear have expiration dates, but over on the maintenance side of our airfield, all the non-refillable O2 tanks used by the welders never expire.

Hi from VA, soon to be CA

Hey, new to the forum, I live out in Virginia, but am moving back home to California in about a month or so. Ol' lady knew I loved beer, so she got me a home brew kit for last Christmas, and have found this quite an enjoyable hobby. I'm on my third batch so far and am enjoying reading the...

    newbi chill haze

Is there any benefits to doing this in the secondary, over doing it in the bottles themselves?
