    Interchangeable lids?

For some foolish reason the last time I was at a brew shop bought two buckets and one lid, thinking I'd just keep one bucket for cleaning. A week later, I've got a second batch going in a Deer Park jug and I'm thinking about starting a third. Swinging by a different brew shop this afternoon...

About to start my first batch of "kitchen sink" mead.

Ladies and gentlemen, the second yeast pitch seems to have done the trick and it looks like it's filling the airlock, so The Kitchen Sink Mead is a go! Ignore my dirty stove. I threw the 4lb mixed berries and 12oz blueberries into a pot, filled with apple juice and got them to room temp, mixed...

About to start my first batch of "kitchen sink" mead.

I ended up taking your guys advice and kicking it up a bit with an extra 12oz of blueberries. Still under 5lbs of fruit for a five gallon batch, but I'm okay with the light flavor. Unfortunately I think I messed up pitching the first round of yeast and after an hour and a half I didn't see any...

When making mead, do you count the honey as part of the gallon?

I'm going to be making a 5 gallon batch of mead and I know the standard is 3lbs honey per gallon (I have 15lbs of honey). Do I use less than 5 gallons of juice/water based on how much honey I'm adding in, or should I just add 5 gallons of liquid in addition to the honey?

    Don't call it a comeback...

So glad to be back, and can't wait to get back into making beer after I get some of my old equipment back. Starting out with wine and mead, but I'll definitely check out Palmer's book (thanks for the suggestion!) I have a local homebrew shop that I stopped in recently and was talking about...

    Dipping a glass...

Haha, with the amount of professionals here who won't even let their brews touch PET plastic, I had to wonder if there were others like me.

About to start my first batch of "kitchen sink" mead.

Once the last of the ingredients are delivered (this Thursday), I'm going to be making my first batch of mead and decided to go with the kitchen sink method. Let me know if you guys think I'm missing anything: 15lbs wildflower honey 2 gallons organic apple juice 3 gallons spring water 4lbs...

    Pylomel?

That sounds awesome! Let us know how it turns out.

    Adding Pectic Enzyme Late?

I'm about to start a 5-gallon batch of mead using 15-pounds of honey, 2-gallons of apple juic,e and 3-gallons of water, with a small bag of blackberries and blueberries in to give it just a tiny flavor. While I'm waiting on a new airlock and lid to come in the mail I figured I should look into...

    Dipping a glass...

13 year update... I definitely just dipped glasses into the bucket of my first apfelwein and drank straight out of it, as did many of my friends, sigh. Back then, I got as far as brewing the stuff but didn't think much past that part. Nowadays I'm doing it right. I've bottled and kegged a few...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

Started making it back when we were at 5,774 gallons, just returned after a long hiatus with another 5 gallon batch. So I guess we're up to ~30,390. Man, that means you guys brewed 24,611 gallons while I was away.

    Don't call it a comeback...

Hey there! I doubt anyone here will remember me, but I definitely remember this place. I joined back in 2008 and started my home brewing journey on this forum. I ended up dragging a couple of my roommates into the hobby, and before long moved on from making basic wines to some kit beer, and...

    montrachet yeast in the Apfelwein

I was thinking about doing my third batch of Apfelwein (first Edwort's) in my basement, but living in a house built in the twenties with an underground basement in the DC area (during winter, no less)... I'm not sure if I should do it now. You guys think I should just stick to using my closet...

    Fermenting Cider w/ Turbo yeast?

I once did a five-gallon batch of apple juice with five pounds of sugar and Lalvin-1118 Yeast, myself (that yeast is used for high content wines, by the way). Being my first brew and just wanting to see how many people I could get drunk for $15, we ended up with this VERY high alcohol...

    Carbonating a Heineken Mini-Keg

Is it possible to buy those mini-kegs from the store and somehow hook up a small CO2 line to them to carbonate? I know, silly... my buddy wants to know. I'm just going to buy a 5-gallon keg, CO2 tank, and cabling, but he wants to know if he can do it mini-keg at a time.

    Coopers carbonation drops pic review

I used to be kinda active on the forums a while back when making my wine, but had to take a break (work got the best of me for the longest time), and now I'm back to try my hand at making beer. So, on with the rookie questions before I start my brew: Is there any way to carb my beer without...

    First Apfelwein Brew; Bubbling Away

Just started my second brew in a spare Deer Park bottle, as I sip on a glass of my finished first. I'll be starting another five gallons in a few days in my original carboy, then have ten around the corner. :D

Is this bad (or is this brett)

Yeah, but you've gotta get it away from that head asap.
