    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

I still haven't figured out what "underattenuation" tastes like, nor do I understand why it'd show up given I hit my expected FG, so I'm not sure I'd personally change anything. I did like drinking it, but maybe I'm not sophisticated. :) I will mention I didn't care as much for the wheat beer...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

Congrats on your first place! I entered both of these into a competition, and did poorly on both. I was told on both that they tasted underattenuated, which I don't understand since I used standard yeasts with decent amounts (one vial per 2 gallons) at slightly high temps (72F vs. 68F) and hit...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

I'm happier with the pale ale than the American Wheat, apparently I like a more subdued hops note in my wheat beers so if I were to tweak the recipe, I'd use a smaller flameout addition, if any; it's highly possible the 10 minute addition would leave enough flavor to satisfy me. Out of...

Dark Mild Mild Mannered Ale (AG) (E) UK/US

I've wanted to make this for a while, after seeing it here and after buying the "Brewing Britain" book that also includes this recipe. Finally brewed a batch of this three days ago. This morning, already at FG. Fast mover. :-) I adapted the recipe to a 2 gallon batch, and am doing a split...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

So I was able to sample the pale ale I made above. I followed that recipe, but to my shock, the FG was 1.007, not 1.012. Coupled with a slightly higher OG of about 1.055, I'm reading at about 6.3% ABV, not 5.1%. Oops. But besides that, it made an awesome beer. The Pekko hops aren't too...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

Your recipe sounds good! I didn't think to try to grab more packets. :-) Pity, because I just bottled the pale ale recipe above and I think it's gonna be an awesome one. I am going to post my final recipe after it carbs up and I can try it, but the sample from the fermenter was great. Nice...

    MoreBeer Torpedo Keg

I had originally thought to get one of these and naturally carb with priming sugar, then attach a paintball CO2 canister to it for serving. If you need the burst of CO2 to initially seal it, though, I wonder if that method would even work.

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

Had not considered it, but that doesn't mean I'm not now. :-) I only have equipment for small batches, usually 2 gallon is my limit. But if I use other hops for bittering, I could perhaps stretch the Pekko out to a 2 gallon American pale ale and a 2 gallon American wheat. I've done all...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

Thanks! Weighed the package when I got home, it's really 2.2 oz, plus it's 15.6% AA, not 15%. Would you still recommend another neutral high-AA hop for bittering, or maybe .25oz@60min, and .50oz at 10min and flameout? I'd have to recalculate quantities based on the higher AA figure, but do...

    Pekko Pale Ale: Feedback Request

Hi, all, I don't normally make pale ales, and I don't normally make my own recipes. But at Homebrew Con this year, I received a pack of Pekko hops as part of the goodie bag. I would like to make something with it to emphasize the hop nature (described as floral, citrus, and mint). So I'm...

    Water Conservation When Brewing

I've been hesitant about getting an immersion chiller because of the water waste. I like the idea mentioned in the comments about draining it into the washing machine, then doing a load of laundry. I only do at most 2 gallon batches at a time, so it should all fit in the washer, plus the wash...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Generally, I try to have enough water in the pot to cover boil evaporation and trub in the fermenter, so when I'm done I have 1 gallon of beer in bottles. I was using a 2 gallon pot at first, but it was too tight a squeeze and boilovers were frequent so I moved to a larger pot. Topping off in...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

What temperature do you set the oven to? My oven's lowest temp is 170°F, I would worry about my mash temp slowly climbing over an hour but I've never tested it.

    Auto-siphon Maximum Temperature

I'm wondering about this myself, and came on this morning to search but found nothing. A boil kettle serves as my HLT, but it has no spigot and I don't want to spend the $45 to get a drill bit I'll use one time. So I was planning on using my auto-siphon to draw from the kettle back into the...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I think the general rule of thumb is 15 minutes before the end of the boil to sterilize it. I looked for some recipes, and the ones I saw either did that, or at the start of the boil, so I think you'd be okay either way.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

That much DME, it's either a 5 gallon recipe, or a recipe for whisky. :-) General rule of thumb, most recipes I see call for 1 to 1.5 lbs. of extract per gallon. Total ball park (i.e. I've put it in no brewing software and I'm still green at recipe formulation myself), this would give your...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I've done so, but you really need a blow off tube instead of using an airlock. There's still some headspace in the jug, but the krausen usually fills that up. I've switched to 2 gallon buckets instead.

    Small CO2 tank

The other advantage is that the paintball tanks are much easier to get filled, usually like $5 at a sporting goods store versus $20 at a specialty welding shop. And they're cheap enough to get multiple ones should you fear running out.

    Small CO2 tank

Please post back with how it goes for you! I was eyeing MoreBeer's Torpedo keg, but then you need to buy the dispenser and regulator, too (and the one JoshuaW posted is pretty sweet, since it's so compact). But then I realized I didn't quite hate bottling as much as I thought I did, so I'm...

    Small CO2 tank

Yes, that's what we're saying. I didn't see such equipment from Norther Brewer, but Adventures in Homebrewing offers it: http://www.homebrewing.org/The-Adapter-CO2-regulator-to-Paintball-Tank-Adapter_p_1122.html That, a CO2 tank, and a CO2 regulator (all convenient add-ons from that same...
