I haven't pursued anything yet. I was exploring it because a local restaurant wanted to sell my beer (manager is a friend and loves my brews). If anything comes of it I'll keep you posted.
I tried to find answers on all this last year. I believe a brew pub does have to sell food, but I imagine you could just sell chips and salsa and get away without needing a full service kitchen.
I thought it was pretty funny. Especially considering that we don't really have hills and most shiners are in the Appalachians. Distilling really isn't a big problem in MS.
I'm surprised there wasn't more of a debate. I would have expected the more conservative politicians to grandstand a bit to appease their constituents.
I'm an AG brewer and wanted to do something for my wife (who hates beer). She likes white wines and sweet wines (Zinfandel, Riesling, or something fruity). Anyone have a simple recipe that might fall into one of those categories?
While some of the politicians are definitely idiots, the majority are successful business men. Their votes are being influenced by campaign promises, contributors, lobbyists, and to a smaller extent, their voting base.
I know some people just like arguing, but big beer definitely has interest in keeping control over the last couple states. Just ask the "Free the Hops" people in Alabama what the biggest hurdle was the first couple years...... big beer distributors.
It's not just in the interest of AB-InBev, it's also in the interest of the distributors. Even if homebrew replaced 0.1% of beer consumed in Alabama, that's a lot of lost money for the brewers and the distributors every year (millions and millions over the years).
You hit the nail on the head. I lived in Alabama for 21 years and the AB lobby is HUGE. Outside of the teachers unions, it's easily the largest money lobby in the state.
At least you had a bill make it to a vote. We can't even get that accomplished in MS. The Deep South is a great place to live and is extremely underrated from a quality of life standpoint, but most of the politicians are complete hypocritical scumbags. The fact is the vast majority of AL and...
The recipe I'm using is going to be a little heavier (affectionately known as fat ass tire) so it being exactly like fat tire isn't important. Just using that style as a starting point.
