    New Guy - NE Ohio

Bottled my first two. The IPa and hefeweizen. There was so much sediment from the dry hopping my yield was a little low on the IPA. Tasted both in the half bottle or so left over and they tasted good and obviously flat. The IPA wasnt as hoppy as expected.

It had been left to ferment for about a week in a plastic bag inside the crate, typically used to hold...

Is this mold? New Guy - 6 days in

I'm clumsy so sounds like a good idea. I also like the above post of a refractometer. Definitely not much beer to spare in a gallon! I'll check out what the store has. I would much rather buy local than online. Prefer to support local businesses and also drink local beer :mug:

Is this mold? New Guy - 6 days in

Thanks for the responses guys. I did add boiled and cooled water after one day of fermentation. I had about a half gallon in the jug as I started with 1 gallon in the boil and didnt replace as it boiled off. My friend convinced me to be careful and add more water. I resanitized the funnel, bung...

Is this mold? New Guy - 6 days in

Being a total new guy but I am concerned. Last night I checked on the beer. The krausen was nearly all gone and no airlock activity. My hydrometer hasnt come in the mail yet so I cant check SG. Added the pictures of what I think could be mold in the neck. The white splotch. About a quarter...

10 Things I Love About 1 Gallon Brewing

I just recently started my first gallon. Friend from work gave me two more similar glass gallon jugs - carlos rossi whatever. I think I am going to do a couple of these gallon brews before I move into anything bigger. I like the idea of small batches for all the same reasons listed and its less...

Craft A Beer - West Coast IPA Kit

The aforementioned friend now convinced me to add water. I boiled a half gallon of water, cooled it with a lid to prevent contamination and then soaked the stopper, airlock and funnel all in sanitizer. I added the cooled till the jug was about to the curve up. I went through a lot of the...

Craft A Beer - West Coast IPA Kit

I didn't add water lost from the boil. The kits instructions said you could but my friend recommended not to do so. Obviously the one gallon jug isn't too full.
