    Storing Bottled Beer

Sorry for bringing up old posts, but I thought that following bottle-conditioning, the yeast's growth needs to be stunted by refridgerating the beer or else autolysis (yeast cannibalization) will take place producing off flavors. The coldest I can get my beer is probably 60-65 degrees. I don't...

Dried Malt Extract vs. Corn Sugar

dried malt extract will give it body. corn sugar will give it nothing but alcohol. plus, dried malt extract is actually made from barley...a real beer ingredient. corn sugar is for soda.

    Brewing Spirits-Revisited

I was reading the latest mens fashion magazine, Esquire, and they had a tiny article on a small in-home copper distilling unit. Here's a pic: I found it kind of cool. Tell me if I'm out of line, but I could definitely see some people on this forum exploring this...though, I believe it costs...

    First Tasting of German Pilsner

Good thing I keep a notebook. Here is more information: White Labs German Lager Yeast Primary Fermentation @ 36-38 F from 6/06-6/24 Secondary @ 36-38 F from 6/24-7/31 Currently carbonating in bottles (plan on placing in fridge today). Will age help? Lets say 2 weeks in the fridge? I...

    First Tasting of German Pilsner

I don't know...3/4 cup corn sugar seems so insignificant to flavor in 5 gallons of beer...It could have been the LME...though, I'd like to think I can trust morebeer.com... EDIT: Here is what the German Pils Extract is made of from Morebeer.com: "This light blond extract is 100% made from...

    First Tasting of German Pilsner

I posted this same thing in my old thread on my German Pilsener recipe but people don't seem to respond to new posts on really old threads. So, in hopes that people respond, I have created a new thread about my tasting. I opened up the first bottle of my German Pilsener after 10 days...

I plan on using DME. Though, I'm curious, how come the hop lines end with "- .3 oz?"

    German Pilsener Recipe

I opened up the first bottle of my German Pilsener after 10 days carbonating and I have to say, I'm let down. I thought this beer was going to be my best yet. Though, it was my first lager. For reference, here is the recipe again from the first post: 6lb German Pils LME (morebeer.com)...

    Budvar Recipe Question

Homebrewer_99 posted this recipe awhile back and I have some questions about it: Budweiser Budvar True Budweis lager. Spritzy aroma of hops and gentle fruit. Quenching, beautifully balanced in the mouth, bitter-sweet Finish with light vanilla notes. OG: 1048 / 11.9 Plato Lager malt (Pilsen)...

    Transporting a Keg

I've decided to buy a kegging system from Morebeer.com. My g/f goes to Chico State and I would like to introduce my homebrew to their parties...what better way than a keg? Though, I have some questions about transporting it. I live 3 hours away and own a Mitsubishi Lancer. Is it possible to lay...

Sorry, about a month late on this reply though that's because I just brewed the altbier. Mucho delay due to timing, space, vacation, girlfriend, etc. Within this reply, I'll write out the final recipe, the process of my partial mash and any problems that took place. Strong Dusseldorf...

    No Blowoff Tube

I just made my first big beer, 1.60 OG, and forgot to buy a blowoff tube. I came down this morning and a nice sticky foamy substance was bubbling from the top of the airlock. I had not choice but to clean it off and then pour some of the beer out of carboy to make space. Now I'm wondering, do I...

    First Time Brewer!

If you only have one bucket total, I advise that you purchase a bottling bucket. I've been trying to imagine ways of conducting a two-stage fermentation without a bottling bucket or just another bucket. Unless you have some other holding devise, which can also be sanitized, then I cannot see you...
