East coast yeast Bug County shelf life (ECY20)

I made up a 1 gallon batch of low gravity, low ibu wort last week and pitched the entire vial into it. So far I have not seen any indication of activity. This will be my first attempt at a sour/wild beer so I don't really know what to expect or how soon to expect anything. If nothing happens I...

East coast yeast Bug County shelf life (ECY20)

Those were my initial thoughts as well. I think I will go with that plan and see what comes of it. No harm in trying! Thanks for the recommendation.

East coast yeast Bug County shelf life (ECY20)

I recently found a bottle of East coast yeast's Bug County blend of wild yeast and bacteria that I had gifted to my Dad two years ago. It has been in a refrigerator in the unopened bottle since November 2014. Does anybody have any info about the shelf life of packaged wild yeast/bacteria or any...

    Major Mash Mishap! Now what??

Just a little update... Added a little less than 1/8th tsp. of amylase (it's a 1g batch) on 04/28. After about 24 hours fermentation restarted. Checked to SG today and it is at 1.018 according to my hydrometer. My expected FG for this recipe was 1.017 but I have no idea how the amount of...

    Major Mash Mishap! Now what??

Also I should add that fermentation looked completely normal at first. I know it's not the best practice to use the airlock as the indicator but in this case the fermentation seemed very healthy for the first 5-7 days. This leads me to believe that the yeast was not the problem...definitely an...

    Major Mash Mishap! Now what??

Just to clear this up, I checked SG with my refractometer originally and corrected using the "Brewers Friend" calculator. I also backed up that reading with a hydrometer because I was skeptical at first. My refractometer is typically right on with my hydro readings after correction.

    Major Mash Mishap! Now what??

Thanks everyone for your recommendations! I agree with bransona and Gavin C that my problem is definitely lack of enzymatic activity so I will get my hands on some amylase and see what happens!

    Major Mash Mishap! Now what??

I have been brewing, primarily extract, for a few years now and decided to attempt my first BIAB all grain batch. I had never moved to AG brewing due to the costs associated with upgrading my equipment (i'm a poor student right now). During the mash I was monitoring temperature using a typical...

Home Brew Club in the Mid Coast or LA region?

I'm currently in grad school and nearing the end of the semester so it may be a couple weeks before I am available but I definitely want to get this started

Home Brew Club in the Mid Coast or LA region?

We could plan sometime to meet up somewhere and discuss plans on how we want to get things going, over a few good beers of course.

Home Brew Club in the Mid Coast or LA region?

Anything ever come to fruition with this? I just moved up to Auburn and would love to get a local club going.
