    My hop trellis design

Anyone have an idea if there is a benefit to having these poles 10 degrees out as opposed to perfectly vertical?

    Can Beer Ferment Too Long?

I'd be surprised if that were a lager. I've left a lager on the trub for several weeks and noticed something. I forget what it was haha. But something was noticeably distinct, and I attributed to sitting on the trub. To be fair minded about it, there's a slight chance that the changes may have...

    My hop trellis design

Looks like the fencing comes in 21ft and 24ft lengths.

Measuring gravity right after a cold crash?

Just wanted it off the trub is all. I keg not bottle. Have you used s-04 before? It's lightning in a... bucket. Starts bubbling in 12 hours and you're lucky to see a single bubble exit after 48 hours. I understand that you can let the brew sit and knock off a few points over two weeks. I just...

Measuring gravity right after a cold crash?

I was thinking crush. I'm always hesitant to run it through a second time because one run and I've got about two tablespoons of flour on the bottom of the mill. I'm not sure I've ever mashed that low and was wondering if that was a contributing factor. In the past a 148 mash with that bill...

Measuring gravity right after a cold crash?

Thanks. Hmmm 4%.... Thought it might be higher lol I used 9lb 2row + 1lb maris + 1lb crystal malt. Hour long acid rest and then 143 F at 30 min, 156F at 30 min Is that to be expected?

Measuring gravity right after a cold crash?

I'm guessing the brew made it to 40F at best while reading it. How many points should I add or subtract from this reading? I got 1.006 at 37-40F OG was 1.035 at 60F

Bump. Is the OP still around?

    Safale S-04 fermentation temp

Just adding to the record here. I'm brewing a pale ale using S-04. I pitched at about 60F and allowed it to rise to 64 over the first 24 hours. It's bubbling away nicely at 64/65'ish and after 12 hours of action (36 hours since pitch) I raised it to 67, just in case it felt like stalling near...

    tower of power

The mash controller would be my first priority. If I could I would buy a whole new set up in one go, but at least with the right pieces I can get used to new components as I go.

    tower of power

Pretty. Thanks for your input. Is that 15/10/15?

    tower of power

Anyone have one? Build their own? Alternatives? I'm growing tired of heating my mash every two or three minutes. It's not pissing me off but obviously some convenience would be appreciated. I read a few people chirp about blichmann's technology in ToP being a form of planned obsolescence...

    Length Matters...

Take it personally, take it how you like. The post is vague and an affirmation. 700+ views in 3 days to read about hop flavor being affected by hose length.... I'm sure they left this thread feeling informed. Well at least you got some people curious, if not confused. There are two general...

    Length Matters...

Wasn't a fan from the start? I don't even look at who is posting when I make my reply. I think calling this a pot shot is reading too much in to it, and I rather not make a new post to a question that could have been explained in this post. No need to add more clutter is there? This post...

    Length Matters...

So, how does length affect flavor? Is it simply a more agitated pour releasing/scrubbing hop aroma out of the beer and in to your nose? I really do wish that this forum was better moderated to discern general talk from otherwise. Although the subject and thread match this category, it is more...

    What's a good bottler?

I've been jamming a 3/8 hose in to my picnic tap and it works fine. For contests and perhaps for small scale business bottling in the distant future I'd like something a little more professional. I've seen microbrews jam a hose in to their tap for filling growlers. Works fine also it seems...

    Length Matters...

Not that informative a thread I'm afraid. Nice affirmation for people in the know I suppose lol

slightly gritty and short lived hop armoa

No sauer in the first aforementioned pilsner. Just 9lbs wyerman pilsner malt with a 123f rest for 30 before stepping it up. I'm really trying to prolong my purchase of a pH unit. Will that hach unit that you bought recently for just over $100 test for acidity and alkalinity? and what of...

slightly gritty and short lived hop armoa

I made a pilsner using a spring water with only these lab results available: Calcium 49.9 mg/L Hardness as calcium carbonate 171.5 mg/L Magnesium 11.4 mg/L Sodium 2.2 mg/L It came out beautiful. The first sip was a bit awe inspiring, at least for me and my mates it was. The only thing I...

    Free Online Beer Chemistry Course

Is anyone getting 100% access through any tablet devices in desktop mode? I don't have a desktop and I want to wait on the kaveri apu's before I invest in a new system.
