50A Electric Brew System for sale

I recently moved and have neither the time nor money to have 240V/50A service installed so am looking to sell my home built electric brew system. It is priced to move and because being home built could use a little TLC. $1300 It was built based on EBrew Supply plans. It includes the panel that...

How long did it take to get your scores? Curious as I recently sat for the tasting exam. And congrats!

100% Brett fermentation in a kettle soured beer

Did you taste at all before putting it on apricots? Curious what sort of flavors you got with it as a primary fermentation. Any funk? Mostly fruit?

Gravity Reading 1.002, Time to Rack or Bottle?

I find that the more different things in bottles the easier it is to resist any particular one! My Berliner was one of my 1st sours that I did and I still have a few bottles left. Having 6 different things to choose from certainly is nice!

There's a fine line between clever and stupid (adding oligosaccarides to lambics)

You could always save it and use it as your "souring agent" for blending. I know people that are running pure lacto cultures (in a keg no less) specifically for blending into other beers to raise the sourness. That can be a little more predictable than trying to hit a certain sourness from the...

Solera container alternatives (other than a barrel)...?

I used a hole saw to drill a hole in the top that would accept a bung. When sampling I use a piece of a racking cane that fits another bung that I attached some hose and a 100mL syringe to. I just swap the bungs, take a sample and put the airlock one back in. Hole size also accepts an auto...

Solera container alternatives (other than a barrel)...?

I've been using these for a little over a year now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Home-Brewing-Beer-Fermenter-13-Gallons-HDPE-2-/191396595586?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c90204782 I've pulled 5 gallons from it for bottling and replaced and so far so good. The beer that came out of it has...

Installing a "Vinnie Nail" in a barrel

Thanks. I couldn't either but thought I'd run it by people since I don't have much experience with barrels.

Installing a "Vinnie Nail" in a barrel

Is there any reason that anybody can think of not to put the hole/nail in the side of the barrel? So putting it in one of the staves rather than the "heads". A friend has a barrel that will not have good access to the heads, so is thinking about putting the Vinnie nail in the side.

    the infamous dragon/passion fruit berliner

I tried a dragon fruit Berliner using 8 lbs dragon fruit (American beauty variety - and that was flesh weight after removing skins) in 5 gal. The color result was what I wanted but no fruit flavor. I would suggest looking for Thompsons which have a plum flavor. Of course if you just are going to...

    Bugfarm (ECY01) on Love2Brew.com

I found this info about the 2015 Bug Farm, which I think is completely different than the 2014 version. I was lucky enough to snag a vial so will need to get that going soon. The 2014 is chugging away and has tasted wonderful even after about 8 months.

    Big Island Brewhaus

Are you looking for one of their specific beers or anything they bottle? I can get a hold of 3 of their brews just don't remember offhand which ones they are. I think Overboard IPA and Golden Sabbath and the other I don't remember but can check. PM me if you are still wanting to try a trade.

    HELP! Breaker popping

Did you happen to talk to eBrewSupply about your breaker issue? It sounds like my setup is spec'd similar to yours and my breaker tripped during an initial run. It hasn't repeated but I haven't had a chance to run everything again as I just got my BK back together (long story). Sent from my...

    Highish FG gravity with ECY20

My flanders red went from 1.047 to 1.004 in 8 months using Roeselare. Mash was at 154 (single infusion). I bottled part of it and added some fresh wort on top with another pitch of Roeselare. Also started a 2nd fermentor with ECY01 - Bug Farm at the same time. Haven't checked the gravity of...

    Roeselare krausen

I had a similar experience to MollyHatcher and have actually pitched Roeselare twice. I didn't need a blow off either time and had about the same amount of head space (maybe a little less) as Molly. The 2nd pitch was after removing some and replenishing with fresh wort after about 8 months...

    Unintentional pellicle.

+1 on using it to blend. Might be a good sour "stock" to add to other beers to bring up their sourness
