    Simple Immersion Wort Chiller

I brew outdoors all the time. Never had an issue with things blowing in the breeze. I used to worry but my buddy, who also brews, says "Monks used to brew by a running stream....they made beer, don't worry". Changed my perspective.

Cutting Hole in Magic Chef Freezer Lid

Appreciate all the advice, it has given me some options and new ideas for future builds. Brewdragon - please post some pictures. I like the idea of cutting out a square to access the lid, I may go down that path. How do you attach pictures to these posts so I can show the build? Thanks...

Cutting Hole in Magic Chef Freezer Lid

In the process of making my kegarator. I'll post pictures later (once I figure out how to post them), but I've hit a snag in the process. How do you remove the plastic interior shield on the lid? I've removed the rubber seal, but the plastic shield seems like it is glued in. I don't want to...

kegging for the first time tonight...

I have the fridge temp around 35-36 degrees, I attach the CO2 with 8 PSI and leave it allone for 5-6 days. When I'm serving, I purge the 8 PSI and drop the pressure to 3-5 PSI....perfect pours and head. I did the 30 PSI shake a couple of times and I could not get the the desired results.

    Fridge for Conditioning

I conditioned a keg in the fridge for 5 months, kept one other in the basement. Tapped both, IMO the fridge brew tasted better...as well as the 10 other guests. I just placed another keg in the fridge this week to validate this theory. What a great hobby!

    Boiling Outdoors

Brew indoors? I would have never have thought.....I've only brewed outdoors. Buddy of mine put it in perspective.....the monks used to brew by a stream in clay pots.....do you think they were worried?.....relax....drink a beer...

    I froze a KEG!!

I opened a 2.5 gallon keg this last weekend, after many fine glasses. I found about an inch of ice at the bottom. I didn't notice any difference in taste or carbonation. I have another 2.5 gallons in the fridge now, I hope it freezes just like the last one...the flavor was great!!

    Carbonation in kegging critique

I have a question about this. First of all this forum has been great resolving many questions I've had and I've banked a bunch of the advice for future reference. Now the question. I did the 30 psi force carb, shaked, purged and repeated..no purge. Then I set the keg in the fridge for 36...

Wrong stopper. Hope I didn't ruin my batch

Same thing happened to me this last weekend. Until I get another stopper, I StarSan'ed everything, and then took painters tape to hold the airlock down. Checked it yesterday...working like a charm. I'm not worried about contamination, I dipped, and used a small spray bottle filled with the...

    Does this look right? (pics)

Had the same thing happen to me once. I was concerned also, and with time they went away. Not sure if it was incomplete fermentation or what. The brew turned out just fine. Great forum, to learn about things like this though.

    Starter that didn't start

No worries....found the air lock working overtime yesterday morning. One more reason you should have a brew and forgetaboutit

    Starter that didn't start

I have the same problem, but I used a wyeast liquid (lager), I'm at 30 hours and no activity on the air lock. I'll give the pail a swirl and see if that changes the situation, if not....I'll repitch and caulk it up to a bad batch of yeast.

    Pushing the Abv Limit?

Taking an ABH mixture with a 1% Abv bump included, how much further could you go in an attempt to push the Abv up? 2, 3, 4%? How will it affect the taste? Aside from taking a beer that usually has a 5.2 - 5.5 Abv and raising it to 7 - 8% Abv....what's the down side?:tank: Thanks!

1st batch finished but does not taste good

Corn Sugar? Well I'm screwed. I have a Munich Helles in primary now, where I bumped the alcohol content by adding corn sugar. According to the Joy of Homebrewing "use in excess of 20% of total fermentable sugars will often contribute to the flavor characteristic of the finished...

    Clearing in Secondary?

I had the same appearance when in secondary with a Munich Helles. I was expecting a blond color, but it appeared amber in the secondary. I just racked it this weekend into kegs and took my final hydrometer readings. It appeared as a golden blond when removed from the secondary.....just as I...

    First Batch coming close?

I sanitized a measuring cup, dipped it in to get a sample when checking with my hydrometer. After I got my reading I transfered to the secondary. I dipped the measuring cup in Stan San to sanitize......no issues.

    Little Bubbles and Floaties

Thanks! Yes I did use irish moss. It's going into week #3 in secondary, with plans to rack this weekend. I figure another 4-5 weeks in the kegs, a little forced carb and we'll be ready:drunk:
