I have made dozens of batches of Apfelwein, mostly original recipe. I recently encountered a clinker and would like to know what the community thinks or if anyone has had a similar experience.
The batch proceeded normally (orig recipe) I bottled after 2.5 months in the fermenter. No...
I've brewed several batches of Apfelwein. For low cost and simplicity it's hard to beat. It is an acquired taste though and I wanted to try a cider which might have more immediate and uiversal appeal. I found this recipe interesting and brewed up my first batch 4 days ago. I stuck with the...
I just found out yesterday that my oldest daughter is now engaged. It got me thinking that carbonated Apfelwein might make an ideal, unique and inexpensive beverage to use when toasting the bride and groom. I know that champagne is traditional but why not? :mug:
Late plantings of Cascade, Willamette, and EKG.
Cascades is 6 ft and has a few burrs. Willamette is two ft and doesn't seem interested in growing anymore. Same with EKG.
I have an extract recipe for an English Pale Ale which I am quite fond of. I want to produce the same product using All Grain.

3.3 # Light LME
2.0 # Light DME
8 oz Crystal 60L (Steep@160 Deg)
1 oz EKG @ 60 Min
1.5 oz Glacier @ 5 Min
2.5 Gallon Boil
So I am thinking that the...
I've got a couple of dozen extract brew days under my belt now with very good results. I brewed an English Pale Ale this morning. Basically a routine brew day. I chuckle when I think how stressful my first was . . . . planning everything out, trying to sinc everything, worrying about...
. . . . and it is beautiful. I found it on eBay. I was expecting it to be .25 or .50 liter but it turned out to be a full liter in perfect condition. Paid $4.80 plus shipping. It contains the inscription "Blauer Bock". I believe this may be a German hotel. it also has a picture of a ram...
I am as impatient as they come. 3 weeks ago I wanted to dump the whole mess into a keg and force-carb the daylights out of it. I'm glad I waited but I didn't enjoy the wait.
Popped one today and heard a very satisfying Pfffft! The beer was great with a creamy, very persistent head and well-defined lacing. Lesson learned? Sometimes it takes 8 friggin weeks to bottler-carb even at appropriate temperatures. Besides occassionally opening one and cussing all I did...
Well this thing as been an experience. Fermentation went pretty much as expected until it started really reeking. Got through that stage. The fermentation is pretty much over. SG is OK. Had been in the primary for a couple of weeks. Racked to secondary today. Lovely butterscotch color...
