    New Brew Rig

That looks awesome. Welding is a skill I've often wished I'd learned. Nice job. I'd like something like that with 3 different heights, the outside 2 being burners.

    Question About IPA's

An extract IPA brew from MS I did a while back called for 2 weeks primary, 10 weeks secondary with dry hops the last 2 weeks. The beer turned out great and has good hop bitterness, but no hop aroma. I have an AG octane IPA in the fermenter now, 2 weeks in primary, and when I took a gravity...

Infection or bacteria in All grain beer bootle

This could be the problem if there's an infection going on. I'm not familiar with Chemipro OXI, but as for Star San, the sanitizer I use, the sanitizing properties are gone once dried. I bottle with freshly sanitized and wet bottles, the Star San doesn't hurt the beer. You may be opening...

    How to Fix the IPA

I've never thought an IPA left a bad taste in my mouth like what you've described. I've had some that I didn't care for, but it wasn't because they were an IPA, I just didn't like the way those particular examples tasted. I'm a huge IPA fan and drink DIPA's almost exclusively. I don't even...

    Left over ingredients beer.

I had a friend over one time that was interested in participating in a brew session to learn more about it. I had enough leftovers for us to brew up a 5 gallon batch and it worked out quite well. Based on the ingredients on hand I'd say it was an American style Pale Ale.

    Craigslist Score!

I picked up a chest freezer a couple weeks ago to turn into a keezer. Until I get all the parts together I'm using it as a fermentation chamber. I've been watching CL for other parts and got a 20lb Luxfer CO2 tank today for $20. It has a dual gauge regulator on it as well, hopefully it works...

Brewed My First AG Batch Today

Thanks for the tips and links, it's greatly appreciated. I've got a very healthy fermentation in process now. The blowoff tube is foamed with krausen and it's bubbling away in the sanitizer bucket. I'm quite happy with the results thus far. To top things off, I just opened my first bottle...

Brewed My First AG Batch Today

I've been planning the move to AG for some time now and finally did my first batch today. I had made my Igloo Mash tun several months back but waited until I felt more confident in using it. A few more extract batches were in order. For a first batch, I think things turned out fairly well. A...

Would you spend on kegging equipment or AG equipment?

I very recently faced the same question. I chose the AG route. To make matters easier I ordered up some more swing top bottles with my AG equipment. I find that the 32oz EZ Caps make bottling a lot more manageable and will hold me over until kegging is a reality for me.

Any Experience With Inline Immersion to Plate Chilling?

I live in Central Florida and my tap water just isn't that cold. It takes forever to get my wort to anywhere near pitchable temps. I currently use a copper immersion chiller but am considering getting a Therminator plate chiller to use inline with my immersion chiller. Water from spigot through...

Insufferable Man Utters Words ‘Craft Beer Movement’

They could have picked a better pic for their "insufferable" man parody. It looks like he's drinking a Michelob Ultra.

What I did for beer today

Bottled up a 5 gallon batch of Hop Head Double IPA (Midwest) in 32oz swing tops. It tasted amazing in its flat and unchilled state. I can't wait to try it when it's ready to go.

What came in the mail for you today?

2 dozen 32oz swing tops from Midwest. I'll be christening them with an Extra IPA this weekend.

    Question for Floridians

I live in the next county over. I couldn't find a good water report for our city water, and the water that comes in to my home is softened. I just opt to buy spring water at Publix in the 2.5 gallon jugs and use that for brewing.

Drinking beer at 7 in the morning

I was just thinking earlier today about what beers I prefer with my breakfast. I tend to like an oatmeal stout as more of a meal replacement with something to nibble on afterward. Blonde ales are good when I want something refreshing to go with my normal breakfast fare of eggs, and bacon or...
