    sight glass material

I've added a sight glass to my boil keggle; my concern, however, is if the material I used will melt under high temp. The sight glass I ordered from Northernbrewer back in the day for my HLT appeared to be a cut racking cane, so I did the same with my DIY boil keggle sight glass. The HLT one...

    Plastic Bucket Lifespan

I started getting a progressively worse random off-flavor in my brews over the past year. My fermentation buckets always held a lingering odor no matter how hard I cleaned or how long I soaked. I eventually gave up on plastics and switched to glass carboys exclusively for my fermentation since...

Why does my starter never have krausen foam?

here's a thread I started on the same topic a few months back: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=50224

SS Braid for a hop stopper?

From your link I see that it won't work well unless you use a hop bag (muslin or nylon). I was hoping to avoid that. How well does the legit bazooka screen restrain pellet hops? I was hoping to DIY a strainer but if I have to buy the for-real product I will. Better to do it right the first...

SS Braid for a hop stopper?

Anyone use a SS braid as a hop stopper in their boil kettle? I was thinking of making a loop around a copper-T connecter with oetiker clamps. Maybe the filter would be too strict and easily clog? Anyone? Anybody?

Just had my keggles welded ...

Sorry, I guess I should have been a little more clear. There's no crystalline matter or cracks or bubbles... just heat stress...about 1/2" - 5/8" radiating from the coupling. I guess I should take a photo...back in a minute. EDIT: Here they are, outside first: then inside:

Just had my keggles welded ...

Just had 2 keggles welded with 4 connections (1/2" couplings for ball-valves and 1/8" couplings for sight glasses) for a grand total of $45. Only thing is...dude guy didn't clean up the welds so there's a lot of heat-stress visible around them. I used a SS wire brush to clean the outsides then...

    Is Sanitizer Reusable?

You could also use Coca-Cola. pH=2.7.

How much did you pay for welding your keggle?

I've been doing the same thing but in the Huntsville, Alabama area and I've been quoted about $80 for 4 stainless-steel welds. I actually thought this sounded a little low and have hesitated on biting the bullet for fear they might botch my kegs. Here's another related yet somewhat...

Hops in AL / Hops not cared for

Actually Alabama is limited by alcohol content (6% and below) as well as volumetrically (nothing above 16 fl oz...convenient since 500 ml=16.95 fl oz). And yes, there is a law restricting homebrewing in alabama, albeit not completely dissallowing it. We (Freethehops) are currently attempting...

Essen Hassenpfeffer meine Hops? It's like a rabbit farm threwup in my backyard--they're everywhere. Are they notorious hop munchers?

Hops in AL / Hops not cared for

I'm a Huntsvillian. Can't offer you retrospective advice because this is my first year growing, as well. I planted mine early last week and I'm already seeing buds coming through the soil. However, with last night's freeze I'm hoping they didn't get hurt too much. I covered them with...

For those of you who use a water filter...

I've used a Whirlpool WHCF-DWHV whole house water filtration system for my past two brews along with their 2 micron charcoal filter that removes sediment and chlorine. I know some of you use similar setups and I was wondering if you store the filter filled or drained with water? In normal...

    I built a wigwam.

Here's one for scale. I'm 6'5" standing about 6 feet in front of the pole. The woman is approximately 30 feet tall reaching for a 12 gallon glass of homebrew. This document has not been digitally manipulated.

    I built a wigwam.

The center pole is actually a fresh cedar about 7 inches in diameter cemented 2 feet into the ground. We've used a lot of cedar for various outdoor projects and it is definately very resistent to decay; I suspect it will last for at least 2-3 years in a vertical position. We have several lying...

    I built a wigwam.

Here's my interpretation of a hop garden. I need insight: did I do good? Will my hops explode? What if I have to go the bathroom ... who will watch my hops to see if they're growing while I'm gone? The portion to the left is 6 feet square, with hops all spaced about 3.5 feet apart...

White fuzz on rhizomes, and now in pots?

could just be microrhizae--beneficial for most plants.

I don't know how to keg because I'm so stupid.

I just kegged my first batch tonight and I feel like a new woman. My question is this: to achieve 2.7 volumes of CO2 at 50 degrees Fahrenheit I need about 20 PSI. OK. For serving I read ~ 9-10 PSI. Alright. Query: How long do I keep the keg at 20 PSI? Should I bleed pressure and refill...
