    My First Cyser

A little over 24 hours ago I started my first cyser... not planned out..not much anyway. I took 5 gallons of raw cider from the orchard up the street, crushed 240mg of campden tablets & put it in the 6.5g carboy. I also took a packet of Nottingham ale yeast & 1800 mL of the above-mentioned...

I used to like Fat Tire pale ale before I started brewing

But this last batch tastes too smoky..... I didn't like it in the cans when I bought it last fall either. Is this smoky flavor malt or what? Maybe I just got a bad batch. I know tastes change but something here has really turned on me.

Stalled Fermentation? (slow) 1.04 to 1.03 in a week

My newest brew in primary is a Belgain Witbier from Salt City Brew Supply. I brewed it a week ago, 4/7/2013, OG was 1.040, It's supposed to be 1.049 but I only boiled 3.5 gallons... today, 4/15/2013 it's at 1.030, probably a much more accurate reading. So 1.049 to 1.030 in 8 days, is that...

DFH 60 minute IPA - ? about FG

8 days ago I brewed up a batch of Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA. At first I was concerned because my OG was 1.03 when it was supposed to be 1.064 - from what I read that's because I only boiled 3.5 gallons of water, not the full 5 and it wasn't fully incorporated. Final Gravity is supposed to...

Is this normal? (pics from 10th day in primary)

I'm working on my 3rd & 4th batch of cider, these are most likely going to be caramel apple hard cider from upstatemike (or close, anyway). I only put in a pound of dextrose in each carboy, 5 gallons of juice each from a local orchard, nottingham ale yeast.... fermenting around 60F (59-62)...

Oopsie! used 6 gallons instead of 5.

It's true. So I brew a super easy Hefeweisen from the SCBS (Salt City Brew Supply). Finish it off & notice my starting gravity is only 1.032 (I'll spare you the french word to the right side of that) I used two 2.5 gallon containers of water & then a 1 gallon, then two 16.9 oz bottles...

how to filter dry hops out of 5g carboy

How diddley do, good neighbor-roonies. I'm a new homebrewer, well kind of. I had 4 batches going and I'm ready to bottle my IPA which has been dry hopped. When I tested the FG of the beer with my turkey baster I picked up a few leaves. I was thinking about using some sort of double...
