Anyone brew with Members Mark "Purified" Water?

Anyone brew with this? If so, do you use as-is, or build a profile? About to mash in. I originally thought it was typical Spring water, but looking closer it says "Purified by micron filtration, reverse osmosis and ozonation." Is this just a fancy way of saying it's filtered, or is this pure RO...

My Ball Lock posts fit perfectly on my Pin Lock kegs!?

I recently purchased 2 used pin locks from Midwest because I haven't seen any used ball locks in a while. Instead of buying pin lock QD's, I purchased the ball lock conversion kit since all my other kegs are ball locks... Went to assemble the conversion kit, and they didn't even come close to...

I was recently talking sours with someone at my LHBS (Northern Brewer), and discussing separate equipment, best practices, yada yada, and he said something I've never heard before.. "Make sure to keep a separate bucket of starsan for your sour equipment". Is this really necessary? Does...

    Berliner Weisse & lactobacillus questions

Just brewed a Berliner Weisse yesterday and realized that I know nothing about lacto :cross: Super easy & quick recipe (bottom), thought it'd be a fun experiment. So far I've pitched 1 vial of WLP677 lactobacillus at ~ 83F, planning on 3 days or so before pitching s-05. Just had some questions...

Can this be blended into a Cherry Tart?

Thinking of a little experiment, so to summarize, I have 4 main questions: 1. Can I blend an already fermented beer with some wort & tart cherry juice, pitch Roselare, and achieve good results? 2. Would Roselare & tart cherry juice be too much tart/sour...should I use a neutral or Belgian yeast...

Kegging will be the death of me

So my 1st year of kegging has gone like this... awesomeness, awesomeness, drained tank, awesomeness, bad regulator, awesomeness, awesomeness, drained tank, awesomeness, drained tank. Just opened my fridge this morning to see the tank is again drained for the 4th time, totally out of the blue...

Defective CO2 regulator how long until beer goes flat?

I have no CO2 and no pressure in the keg, how many days do I have before noticing a significant drop off in carbonation? The keg is mostly full. Also, I'd like to thank Midwest for the defective regulator (I think?). When I received it, it was in open packaging, I'm guessing from a previous...

Tequniques for chilling wort to low 60's with immersion chiller?

Wondering if anyone has any tips they'd like to share? I'm having a hard time getting wort below 82* with an immersion chiller in the summer. Thinking of putting the glass carboy in an ice bath to chill it further. Not sure if that's a bad idea w/ glass? I've been putting the carboy in my...

12 hours enough time for starter w/ stir plate?

Just wondering opinions if 12 hours is enough time on a stir plate? Yeast is wlp001 that's apparently only 60% viable. Beer is an APA at 1.056, will be pitching all 1.2L tonight. Thanks :mug:

How much does an empty 3.3# LME carton weight?

Weird question, but does anyone have an empty 3.3 LME carton they could weight for me?.. Similar to this one. I need to figure out approx how many grams of LME I have left for a large starter, preferably without creating a sticky mess. Thanks!

    Creating extracts.. Vanilla/Vodka & Oak/Bourbon?

Looking for some feedback with this. I'm attempting to create these two extracts for a split batch, and I'm pretty sure I know what to do with the vanilla, but not sure if the same could work with oak & bourbon? For the vanilla, I'm thinking 2 beans, cut & scraped in 400ml Grey Goose for at...

Mr. Malty vs. Beersmith Pitching Rate

So this is my first really big beer, a RIS at 1.122. Mr. Malty is telling me I need 423 billion cells and a 4.18L starter, while Beersmith says I will yield 471.3 billion with a 3L starter. Viability is the same in both calculators and both are using a stir plate. These numbers aren't very close...
