    2014 Hop garden photo thread

First year centennial and first attempt at growing in Wisconsin...seems to be going well, I think, given I wasn't expecting any yield year one. Any feedback on how things are looking would be appreciated. It climbing to about 15 feet overall which is promising for first year but early buds...

    Growing Hops in Wisconsin

1st year grower north of mke...how much should I be watering? I heard 5 gallons a day per hop hill but that seems like a ton. I read get a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot, drill a 1/8 hole in bottom and let it drain slowly (taking about 15 min to drain 5 gallons) Sent from my iPad using Home...

    Fermentation Question

I think it looks fine. Given you're using a blowoff tube and not a bubbler or air lock most of the co2 is able to escape through a wider area, this would decrease the amount of bubbles you see and I'm sure overnight that baby was going like a hot tub. The hardest part is waiting and my biggest...

show us all your fermentation closets/chambers here

What did you use for cooling ...is that an AC unit cut into the back? Looks awesome btw I love the converted cabinet loo. I want to go this route but don't want to spend too much on the cabinet though.

    Can my beer be saved??

After about three days from brew day my one gallon "test" batch amber ale was looking good, but I come back from being out of town and I see this.... Is my beer ruined and if not how should I fix this? Just replace the bubbler with a clean one and hope for the best?? Good news is the 5 gallon...

    secondary or no secondary??

Did you notice any difference in taste? I'm assuming not since you haven't gone back....

    secondary or no secondary??

I've been told that switching to a secondary fermentor improves clarity and decreases bitterness, but how much of a difference does it really make.? I've always made the move for my 5 gallon batches and normally have two going at once. Im now throwing in a couple 1 gallon "test" batches in the...

Great thanks! I figured I had something switched but the value for the honey edition is really helpful.

    ABV calculation question

I brewed an extract recipe but in addition to what the recipe called for I added a # of honey with 5 min left in the boil. Unfortunately at the time of boil I didn't have a hydrometer so I didn't get a legit OG reading. The OG of the recipe w/o the honey was 1.052. I bottled today and took...

Issues with OG...should I be worried?

Thanks everyone, appreciate the feedback. Regardless hopefully it turns out to be a good brew. Cheers!

Issues with OG...should I be worried?

Ok, I see...so I should be taking the OG reading after I have added the total volume to 5G in the carboy. I thought you just took it straight from the boil (after cooling of course) newbie move with the hydrometer on my part. Although 8% cream ale would be aggressive haha For future brews...
